Luke's Stay 6/19-7/19 2004
Afternoons
Here I am with Selma's dog, Camila.  Following the excursions or projects, the afternoons were very flexible and open.  I wound up filling them with a variety of activites.  John and I joined a gym for a month, so I would try and go there whenever I had some free time.  The busses were very convenient, and cheap!! Somedays I would participate in the spanish/english exchange program where students would pair up with local residents and teach english for an hour, and then reverse roles and practice spanish for an hour.  This was a great way to practice the new material I learnedduring class.  Other days, I would do lots of small activities, such as going to an internet cafe for a little while to e-mail my parents, and return to practice the dance for the quinceanera.
Some afternoons, when we didn't go on an excursion after class, we  would do a project such as making a pinata, or preparing tamales.
I was usually pretty tired by the end of all this!! But as luck would have it, there was always something to do in the evenings too!
