CROSS COUNTRY NOTES

Scoring

Regional and State Advancement

Nov 4, 2000 A wet, muddy, slippery course could not keep the Pirates girls team from advancing to state. The boys team finishes fifth - a mere 20 points from qualifying the team. Michael Matthews advances because of his 9th place finish.

The state meet will be held Nov 11 at Old Settlers park in Round Rock. It is near the new minor league baseball park.

The 10 girls (7 varsity + 3 alternates) and 1 boy will miss school on Friday to travel to the state meet. Friday afternoon the team will jog the course. There is a charge for everyone (except the athletes) attending the state meet. Carpools are being established for early Saturday morning. It is a little over three hours driving time to get to the exit in Round Rock. Expect slow traffic once you get to the park. The Poteet tent should be set up near the pavillion and you may have to walk a half mile or more from the parking at the baseball field.

Oct 26, 2000 Poteet hands the Lady Scots their first district loss since moving to 4A in the mid 80's. A great team effort by both teams have both teams advancing to regional at Vandergriff. 4A girls will run first so try to get there (Vandergriff) early Saturday morning. Plan on staying for most of the morning, the awards ceremony is indoors after the meet. They have the top 3 teams and top 10 individuals called on to the stage.

Oct 21, 2000 The district 13-4A meet is on a Thursday, October 26th. We may have an optional workout at the state meet course in Round Rock on Saturday, October 28th. Contact Coach Rob for details. We are looking for parent volunteers to help drive.

Oct 19, 2000 The Spaghetti dinner is next Tuesday. The cost is $10. We have reserved a room for the team at Luigi's in Rockwall. Parents are invited! It is just north of I30, the second exit (205) after you cross the bridge. Dinner is at 7:00 pm.

I requested pictures and received a ton of them! Go back to some of the earlier races - lots of pictures were added 10/18.

Oct 9, 2000 Pictures. We need more pictures on this web site! If you can send them to me ( mmurch@prodigy.net) via email, I will post them as soon as I get them. Be sure to let me know when and where the pictures were taken. If you have not seen the Girls team picture from Marcus II - click on Marcus II.

I have been asked to add a web page dedicated to Poteet former cross country runners. If you know any previous runners or would like to write something about a someone, please do!

Oct 6, 2000 Time to start thinking about the annual pre-district spaghetti dinner. It will be October 24 at Luigi's in Rockwall. All runners and parents are invited.

Every year door prizes are given out at the dinner. If you would like to donate (items or money) for prizes, please see Frances Murch.

Oct 5, 2000 Texas Track ( www.texastrack.com ) recognizes the Poteet girls cross country team and ranks them 5th in the state. With less than three weeks to the district meet, HP is ranked 1st in the state.
