Against All Odds
Chapter Six:
By Monday morning, Tracy called me up to say Dave will also go to
our school, Hillton High for the meantime.
"That's great," I smiled over the phone. Thinking, I
would get the chance to be with him some more.
"Yeah, wasn't that great? I could spend some more time to
get to know him,"Tracy got my idea. My smile turned into a
frown.
"Oh, well," I suddenly had the urge to hang up.
"See you at school. My bus would fetch me up any minute
now."
Tracy didn't get the tone of my voice. "Ok. Ta-ta."
Then, we hang up.
I sighed a little. Things would get a little bit complicated from
now on. My best friend will try to get out on a date with him
while I spend some Friday nights at home, doing my homeworks.
That's a real bore, isn't it? Oh, I don't know what to do.

Before homeroom, I walked out the crowded hallway to my locker. I
opened it and fidgeted out my books that I needed. I slammed my
locker shut then I saw Dave standing beside me. He's smiling at
me. We're standing face to face.
"Hi,Liz," he smiled at me. I blushed.
"Hi,Dave. Nice to see you in here," I smiled at him.
"Thanks," Dave replied. "I urged my dad to enroll
me here at Hillton High. And for now, I have no regrets."
"Good to know that," I replied. I looked at the floor.
I don't want to melt at his stare again.
"Well, I just wanted to tell you that, I had a great time
last Friday night. Sorry I didn't even say goodbye to you. Mark
said there's an emergency call from his dad, so, we went
home," Dave explained.
"That's ok," I said. "I understand."
"So, I wanna ask you something," Dave looked at me.
"What?"
"Ok, here goes...,"Dave replied but just as then,
someone tapped my shoulders. I looked over and it was Jeremy.
"Hi,Lizy," he exclaimed. He looked good today not like
Friday night.
But I looked uninterested. I raised my eyebrow at him. I turned
my head back to Dave.
"Ok, what?" I asked Dave but Jeremy tapped me again.
"Lizy, please let me explain," he apologized. He bended
on his knees.
Ugh! I hate it when guys do that. As if I don't have any mercy.
"Maybe, I should get back to you later," Dave told me.
"No, please stay, buddy," Jeremy requested. "I want
you to hear this." I looked at Dave and he stayed.
I looked at Jeremy. I could feel all eyes were looking at us.
"Lizy, I want your complete apology. I know I did something
wrong but I want to have you back. Please? I promise, I'll stay
good from now on. I swear I'll never do that again," Jeremy
pleaded with soft blue eyes. He looked sincere. But I don't want
him anymore.
"Hey, give that guy your apology!" Someone shouted.
"Yeah!" Someone agreed. "He looks sincere!"
"That was
sweet!" someone giggled.
Then, I looked at people around me. They were awed by Jeremy's
action but I'm not.
I looked at Jeremy,he do looked sincere. I looked at Dave but
Dave doesn't seem to notice.
"Ok," I softly blurted out. Then, Jeremy stood.
"Wow, Thanks, Lizy!Does this mean we're a couple now?"
I looked at him with blank expression in my eyes. Then, he hugged
me and he softly kissed me on the lips. His eyes were closed. I
only closed my eyes but I didn't kiss him back.
"Oh, yeah!" Some people exclaimed. Then, they went back
to their normal works.
I remembered Dave was standing in front of us. I opened my eyes
and there I found Tracy (wearing a light blue shirt!) beside
him.I backed out from Jeremy's kiss.I breathed a little.
"Thanks, Lizy," Jeremy replied. "It's nice to have
you back. See you at lunch." Then Jeremy sauntered off.
"Ohmigosh! Wasn't that nice?" Tracy giggled. "My
best friend's back with his boyfriend?!"
"Yeah," I could only hear Dave reply. I could sense
that there's the hurt in his heart. I could see it in his eyes.
Right in front of me.
Oh, I'm shattered.What have I done?
Tracy winked at me. "Come on, Dave, let me show you to your
homeroom class."
I could only see them, walking, hand in hand, feeling astrayed.
Well, what now? Tracy will have him any time now.
