-This game is one of the few M-rated games on the GameCube. Is it good? Yes. Is it original? Not really. True Crime is a neat game, with the entire city of Los Angeles mapped out to drive in, and it's all accessible all the time. Gameplay: A- This game is lots of fun. You're a short-tempered cop who's looking for a lot of things. Each mission can be skipped, but if you skip it, the story will change. For example, if you skip a fight with a criminal, in the next mission you will see yourself beaten up. All of this is done very well. You also have to drive in the game, which is also well done. You can steal any car you want, or earn really fast cars in street races. Your car can gain damage, such as a flat tire or a busted side. This makes it where you aren't invincable in a car. Around the city, are tons of upgrades. And I means TONS. There are three types of upgrades- fighting, shooting, and driving. Peel-outs, spin kicks, and night vision are some examples. All of this extends the replay by a lot. Navigating the city is simple, with a small road map on your display. You can also see a larger map of the city in the pause screen. Getting from one end of the city to another could take up to 30 minutes. This, though, prevents you from getting to know one part of the city very well because the missions require you to go to many parts of L.A. The third person shooting and fighting are the main part of the game. The controls are a little slow, but you'll get used to it. Though, in shooting, trying to get a neutralizing shot can sometimes be a pain. The fighting is more of a button masher, but can be mastered. Graphics: B- The vastness of the city can sometimes take away from the graphics. Though in some missions, you'll be taken inside buildings where everything looks very detailed because less things are going on. Sound: C+ Most of the game's tracks are actually pretty boring. Activision's soundtrack is nothing compared to some of EA's games. Challenge: B+ The challenge varies A LOT from mission to mission. The car missions are pretty easy, and the hardest are the fighting. Replay: A You could play this game forever, just solving street crimes and trying to become a good cop. The main missions themselves take about 20 hours to complete. Overall: 93% "A great game for the action fan." |
