Colleen's comments October 2003 Putu Les had organised for Jonni to pick us up & take us to Bali Gardens in Tuban for our first 7 days.First of all we were shown a room with Single beds that I thought was a bit close to the main road & too far from the pool & cafe. I politely asked what other rooms were available & was shown a room closer to the pool that had a QS bed. They put in a SB mattress & we had plenty enough room for the 3 of us.We had plenty of storage space,a safe, tea & coffee making,TV & airconditioner. We also had a small verandah that overlooked the pond. As has previously been reported the bathrooms ARE a bit tired. We had fresh clean towels every day & the room was always cleaned. The bath was marked & fittings a bit worn.We also had a constantly dripping - virtually slowly running tap all the time on hand basin. I reported it several times but it was never fixed. Unfortunately Adrian (Aussie GM) was still in Australia when we arrived but I asked the staff to let me know when he got back. The beach is right out the front of the hotel & it's only a short walk into Matahari's along Jalan Kartika Plaza. Waterbom Park is right across the road. On same side of road as Bali Garden is a great honest money changer near the Dynasty & a large supermarket that is cheaper than Matahari's - look for the cocky in a cage out the front. The staff at Bali Garden were extremely friendly & helped me improve my Bahasa Indonesian. The breakfast(price included in package) was incredible. Toast, jam, honey, vegemite, juice, choice of many fruits, rice, noodles, tomatoes, potatoes, tea or cofee as well as choice of any style of eggs & pancakes, bacon -all cooked while you waited. There is a pool table, internet access- think 300 rp per minute. I think the cocktails were about 25000 rp & pizzas at pool side cafe about 28,000 rp. The cafe does close early though at 8pm I think. It's not a full choice type restaurant but nice for a snack. There is a bar inside that has a free pool table & a large size chess set in a covered area near the pool. The pool is a reasonable size with a pool bar. Massages are available by the pool or just outside on the beach by the beach sellers. None of the beach sellers outside were too full on. They were happy much of the time to sit & talk, help me practice my Bahasa while I helped them with their English. My son had a massage one day by one of the ladies & he said it was great. A few days after arriving I caught up with Adrian & he showed me the new family rooms. They are well on the way. I wanted to take a photo to show Les but Adrian said they didn't have the proper furnitiure yet & to catch up later. Unfortunately time ran out. They are going to have a dividing curtain of some sort between the parents & childens bed. I don't think it will be a solid wall from what I was told. A water cooler with free aqua & a larger fridge is installed. The almost completed ones are right up the front facing the street but plants are being installed as a sound barrier & a small courtyard area outside each room is being developed. I think they will be nice once finished. I think Bunk beds that fit either 2 or 3 children are going to be installed. More family rooms are going to developed next year in other areas of the hotel In summary the Bali Garden was lovely. Suited mainly to familes or couples who want a reasonable priced hotel close to town & places to eat & drink. There is not a lot happening within the hotel & is no kids club so if you want action or the kids to looked after may be look elsewhere. It suited us perfectly though. My son made friends with other young teenagers there & a group of them went to Waterbom park together. We also got to know some other familes. Addendum ...reference to the Hotel Map: We stayed in room 178 ( deluxe room with safe & tea & coffee facilities ) which is technically 1st floor BUT you actually walk downstairs from the lobby. Relating to the outside level of the pond /pool etc you would pretty much say it is ground floor. Naturally there is no balcony being ground floor BUT we preferred that cause we had a lovely little verandah & walked straight out of the back door of our room to go to the coffeee shop where breakfast is served or walk out to the beach or pool. Great set up for families with kids. From memory I reckon that room 173 /174 are interconnecting rooms ,people we met had their 3 teenage kids next to them. The soon to be family rooms are in the section on what is called the 2nd floor BUT when you open their front door it is ground level out to Jalan Kartika Plaza. From memory they are the rooms in the area of 201 > 206 & 221 > 226 .There is NOT going to be solid wall between the kids bunks & the parents bed . I was told a curtain. The area behind the lobby is where a bar that is opened late is with a free pool table. In the outside section that is marked tropical garden there is a bure that has a giant chess set in. The area marked spa is NOT a spa as Australians know is but where you can get massages done by hotel staff. Massages are also available out on the beach in a little hut by beach vendors. Cafe Taman out the front was non-existant when we where there & looked as if it hadn't been open for a long time. The pizza bar by the pool closes very early - round 8pm & there is no where else to sit down & get food in the hotel after this. The coffee shop where you eat breakfast has both inside & outside eating areas. The Padma room seems to just be a just a storeroom these days, may have previously been something else but not for a long time. Map courtesy of Colleen |
