Marko's comments February 2004
We booked a superior room for 3 nights in January but were 'upgraded' on arrival as all the supreior rooms were full.
It looks like the 'de luxe' rooms are a bit worn-out. They might be a bit larger than the superiors (as far as I can say from Lulu's photos), but the fully marbled bathroom has a normal (not sunken) bathtub + a separate shower. The outside sitting area is of about the same size as on the pictures and there was only a wooden bank there - not really the place to relax... Moreover, there is a high wall all around you if you stay on the ground floor, so I would recommend to take the upper storey room which might also be less humid than our was.
I was really not impressed by the swimming pool which is not well kept and is ripe for reconstruction. The next-door Pertiwi is better in this respect.
Breakfasts were nothing special; let's call it just OK. The nicest part of the hotel is the huge sitting area behind the restaurant, but it seemed that nobody really used it when we were there.
Somehow I expected Ubud Village Hotel to be a step upwards in quality to the Pertiwi Resort (superior rooms) where we stayed a year ago. It turned out not to be really so. Ubud Village Inn is smaller by area and number of rooms, it has a more spacious restaurant but only one (old) swimming pool and a smaller garden. I think next time we will try to find another place on Monkey Forest Road. I am sure I could get a similar standard for less money elsewhere. |
