I'd
like to join the SPICE WebRing, but I didn't make my
website. How can I join?
The folks that did design your site can be notified that
you'd like to join the ring for more exposure to local
folks. Contact them, give them the SPICE WebRing address
and tell them you'd like to join. They can have you added
just that easily - there is nothing special needed to
join.
Why
hasn't my site been added?
There are several reasons as to why your
site has not been added yet:
- The WebRing Code is nowhere to be found on your site.
- The WebRing code has been botched and does not work.
- Your site is not being found by browsers.
- You have altered the SPICE WebRing graphics in some way
or they have been omitted from the code.
- You have not mentioned on the site anything about
SPICE.
- The WebRing points to a page with no SPICE WebRing code.
- Your page refuses to load properly and thus the SPICE
WebRing cannot be found.
- You have entered an incorrect URL for your site. The
address for your website is incorrect, where are you?
Can anyone join?
Yes and NO. Yes, anyone and everyone are welcome to join, all we ask is that your website pertain to some aspect of D/s, BDSM, Master/Mistress- slave relationships. This includes of course males and females. No, please be of legal age as mandated by your state laws.
Does
the ring code have to be on my front page?
No! You can put the ring on any page of your web. We
require that you register the URL of the page containing
the code so that people can just breeze in and then
breeze out. Hint: if you are not going to place the code
on your front page, we highly recommend that you give a
detailed overview of your sites' content so that ring
surfers get a good idea of what it's about.
Do
I have to place the code on my page?
Yes! Without the code, your site cannot be added to the
ring. Please add it as soon as you join so that there's
no delay and don't forget to insert the Site ID# where
requested.
Should
I contact you as soon as I join the queue?
No! We have the ring configured so that it sends us
e-mail for every new site added, so a second notice isn't
necessary.
How
long does it take to join the ring?
If all of the ring information is on your page correctly,
it may be added that very same day.
What
is my site ID#?
Your
Site ID# is a number that identifies your website to the
program that runs the SPICE WebRing. The number tells the
program who is before you and after you in the ring,
allows for statistics to be logged and maintenance to the
ring. Without your site ID# properly placed in the ring
code, there is no way for the program to recognize your
site.
How
do I place the SPICE WebRing on my site?
- Join the ring by filling out the form on
the SPICE page.
- Read all the information pertaining to the rules and this FAQ.
- Select the SPICE WebRing graphic and code you like.
- Copy and paste the code for the ring into the HTML of
your document.
- Find the two places within the code where you are
supposed to place your site ID# and do so.
- Upload your edited site to your service providers
server and test the ring code to see if it works.
- Check the links within your browser to see if they are
correct.
- If everything is ok, your site will be added
momentarily.
Can
I change/resize the graphics or rearrange the code that
goes along with the ring?
NO! Unless you have the know-how to change the table
coordinates for the images in order to shrink them. Any
alterations to size will be subject to approval. Feel
free, however, to change the type of font or color to
better suit your page.
The
code seems to be correct, but you are telling me that it
isn't. What am I doing wrong?
- First, start with fresh code. Cut and paste the code
found on this site on the Join page. Make sure that you have
deleted all remnants of the old code.
- Look for the places with in the code that says
"YOUR SITE ID # HERE" and place your site ID#
in place of "YOUR SITE ID # HERE."
- There should NOT be a # sign next to your ID #
- There should not be ANY spaces between your ID# and the
code before and after it.
- Check the code within a browser (Netscape or Explorer)
to see what the links "PREV" and
"NEXT" look like.
They SHOULD look like this:
PREV:
http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=bwofs&id=49&prev
NEXT:
http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=bwofs&id=49&next
They SHOULD NOT look like this:
PREV:
http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=bwofs&id=YOUR
SITE ID # HERE&prev
NEXT:
http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=bwofs&id=YOUR
SITE ID # HERE&next
PREV:
http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=bwofs&id=YOUR
SITE ID#49&prev
NEXT:
http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=bwofs&id=YOUR
SITE ID # 49&next
PREV:
http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=bwofs&id=#49&prev
NEXT:
http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=bwofs&id=#49&next
PREV:
http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=bwofs&id=
49 &prev
NEXT:
http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=bwofs&id=
49 &next
PREV:
http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=bwofs&id=
NEXT:
http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=bwofs&id=
And so on...
The
WebRing seems to be dead, what's going on?
The WebRing is growing. The webring service is free and is always being upgraded.
Also, it is possible that, sometimes, their systems go
down and that will effect the links on millions of web
sites--yours is just one of them. Joya, the webmistress (Master says its ok) of
the WebRing, does her best to keep things going smoothly.
