What You Do

Well the night gives so much hope,
It’s what we keep for all our lives.
But it’s when our hope betrays us,
And feeds us dirty lies.
I made a promise to myself,
A promise I couldn’t keep,
So I was blaming all the world,
When all the world just went to sleep.

Sometimes you get lucky,
Sometimes you get not.
But sometimes you don’t have a chance,
And you’ll wonder what you would’ve got.

And the eyes of another tease you,
Like they know stuff you never will.
And the eyes of a friend can break you,
Those eyes together kill.
But maybe I can hold on tight,
Needing no one but myself.
But lately I’ve been so lonely,
Feels like I’ll never get that well.

Sometimes you get lucky,
Sometimes you get not.
But sometimes you don’t have a chance,
And you’ll wonder what you would’ve got.

Tell yourself your alright,
And get up off your knees.
No one ever found true love
By making such pitiful pleas.
Make yourself a promise
And tell yourself no lies.
Cause all the world could break you,
But only you’d ask why.

Sometimes you win for yourself,
Sometimes you save a life.
But sometimes you save a man from drowning,
Just to watch him take a knife.
