Headquarters Section is responsible for the organizing, training, & supervision of the 13 MILITIA Brigades within MILITIA 5th Division MI.
MILITIA 5th Division MI Headquarters Section staffs & operates MILITIA
5th Division MI Irregular Warfare School which supervises all brigade instructors, schools, & courses within MILITIA
5th Division Michigan.
MILITIA 5th Division Michigan Headquarters Section is tasked with coordinating training & the actions of the 13 MILITIA Brigades within MILITIA 5th Division MI to conduct division level training & actions. MILITIA 5th Division MI Headquarters Section is also tasked with coordinating training & the actions of MILITIA 5th Division MI with those of the other MILITIA Division Headquarters Sections within the State of Michigan to conduct corps level training & actions.
Decision for the MILITIA 5th Division MI Brigades to operate out of the MILITIA 5th Division MI counties is made by the MILITIA 5th Division MI Commander and staff.
MILITIA 5th Divsion MI Brigade units & members are encouraged to participate with the 9th Brigade 5th Division MI & 8th Brigade 5th Division MI in conducting joint training exercises with the approval & knowledge of your Brigade Commander & Brigade Headquarters Staff this "call to train" has the approval of the MILITIA 5th Division MI Commander & staff.

The purpose of the unorganized militia is to protect life, liberty, community, local, state, national infrastructure, & to ASSIST the lawful authorities of the state & nation in time of crisis.
MILITIA is compromised of able bodied citizens 18 - 60 years of age in MI.
The classes of the Militia are (1) the organized Militia, which consists of the Army, National Guard, Air National Guard, Coast Guard, and the Naval Militia; and (2) the unorganized Militia, which consists of the members of the Militia who are not members of the Army, National Guard, Air National Guard, Coast Guard, or the Naval Militia."
All of Michigan`s 83 counties are identified as a Brigade regardless of size with tactical organization varying in each MILITIA Brigade.
Brigade means "A tactical unit & administrative unit composed of a headquarters with supporting units."
Each of the 83 MILITIA Brigades in Michigan is commanded by a Major -
Lt Colonel in the MILITIA rank system. The 83 MILITIA Brigades are organized into 9 MILITIA Divisions each MILITIA Division is commanded by a Colonel in the MILITIA rank system.

9 MILITIA Divisions also known as MILITIA Corps are commanded by a State Command.
MILITIA 5th Division MI member(s) are taught basic & advanced marksmanship, camouflage, concealment, cover, observation, individual team movement, land navigation, tracking, communication, reporting, first aid, survival camping, patrolling, defensive offensive tactics, mission planning, & employment.
All members of the unorganized MILITIA are required to purchase & maintain their own rifles, ammo, uniforms, & equipment.
To qualify Level 1 members are required to have their Level 1 uniforms/equipment, be able to hike 2 miles within 40 minutes in uniform with their equipment, shoot 8 out of 10 shots in a 9 inch target at 100 yards with their personal weapon, demonstrate the ability to field strip & clean their personal weapon.
MILITIA members attend a 4 hour meetings during the month & a 24 hour tactical exercises that is normally conducted on a Saturday 1200 - Sunday 1200 once each month.
Level 1 & 2 training can be conducted during weekdays depending on members schedules with as few as 4 members by prior arrangement. E-mail for the meeting times & training locations as it varies each month.

Michigan Compiled Laws 32.509: Organized militia; unorganized militia.
Section 109 The organized militia of this state collective shall be known as the state military establishment and constitutes the armed forces of this state. The organized militia consists of the army national guard, the air national guard, and the defense force when actually in existence as provided in this act. The unorganized militia consists of all other able-bodied citizens of this state and all other able-bodied citizens of this state who have or shall have declared their intention to become citizens of the United States who shall be age 17 or over and not more than age 60, and shall be subject to state military duty as provided in this act.
