Guan Yu, Man of Beautiful Beard, vs Yue Fei, Serving the Nation Loyally
"I am Guan Yu of the Five Tigers, which son of a turtle dare fight me!" Guan Yu's loud booming voice echoed and resounded throughout the arena. Mounting the Red Hare, gripping the Green Dragon Crescent Moon Blade with his right hand, and stroking his long flowing beard with his left, Guan Yu was a sight to behold.
An arrow zipped by and embedded itself on Guan Yu's blade. On the other side of the arena, Yue Fei rode out in full battle gear. Slinging his bow, he rode up to Guan Yu.
"I am Yue Fei, style name Wu Mu. You took my post as God of War. I want it back." With that, he launched a thrust at Guan Yu with his spear.
"Hey, perhaps I deserve it more than you do, ever think of that?" Guan Yu parried the thrust and sliced at Yue Fei with his own blade.
"On what grounds?" Yue Fei ducked and hit at Guan Yu with the butt of his spear.
"Bah! Call yourself a general! Who in China does not know of the noble
and heroic exploits of Guan Yu! His courage on the battlefield! His loyalty to his lord! His-" Guan Yu was interruped by another spear thrust. Setting the attack aside, he continued. "His disregard for personal gain!" This last sentence was punctuated by a slash at Yue Fei's torso.
Yue Fei's horse reared up, putting both its rider and itself out of harm's way. Yue Fei thrust again. However, as Guan Yu moved to parry, Yue changed the trajectory of his spear, turning the thrusting motion into a sweep, aiming to knock Guan Yu upside the head. Guan sensed a wind coming at his cranium and, thinking quickly, slid into a side-straddling position. Red Hare was not so lucky, as the spear instead slapped against its skull, causing it to rear up in pain as Yue Fei unleashed a verbal barrage.
"Courage? The newborn calf fears not the tiger. Your loyalty is personal at best, as your lord was your sworn brother. Your disregard for personal gain? Pei! All of these accomplishments pale in comparison to mine. I have taken on and beaten numerically superior opponents - on a constant basis, mind you. My lord did not even support my actions half the time, the brain-addled fool, yet I remained loyal to him - something that takes ten thousand times more dedication than your loyalty! Disregard
for personal gain? Who has sacrificed more than me? I fight, I recover lands, I vindicate decades of humiliation, and what do I get for it? The gaols, execution on charges 'not necesarily there!' Besides, was it not you who let your lord's enemy, Cao Cao, escape when you had the chance to eliminate the threat?" Yue Fei stabbed downwards to emphasize his point.
"Cao Cao treated me with honor when I was a prisoner of his! How could I strike down he who had treated me so well?" Guan Yu countered verbally and physically.
"You helped him defeat Yuan Shao, that was enough; furthermore, your excuse shows that you allow your emotions to cloud your judgement! Not only that, your arrogance cost you various battles, including the one that eventually caused the defeat of your kingdom!" Yue Fei turned away. "I shame myself by fighting you!"
Guan Yu gritted his teeth in anger. A primal growl formed in his throat. Screaming with rage, he galloped towards Yue Fei's retreating figure.
"Stay, O twice bastard! I am Guan Yu of Shu!"
In the stands, Zhang Fei gasped. "That bastard stole my line!"
Meanwhile, Yue Fei grinned. It was the grin of a predator who knew his prey was coming. Reaching into his breastplate, he pulled out two iron objects. Suddenly turning around, he revealed them to be twin iron bolas. Yue Fei swung the weapons once for momentum, twice for speed, and let go.
The bolas sailed towards Guan Yu with like a steppe eagle diving, ready to pounce on its target. Guan Yu deflected the first shot, but the second impacted with his right shoulder, momentarily disabling his arm. By this time, Yue Fei had galloped right next to Guan Yu. In a last ditch effort, Guan swung his blade at Yue Fei's head.
He never expected Yue Fei to knock him off his horse with a flying side kick.
Neither did he expect Yue Fei to execute an armlock, elbow him in the face twice, and catch him in an armbar.
"One final reason I should be the God of War: not only am I better than you at the arts of warfare, I also invented my own martial art! You know that story about me creating Eagle Claw? Well it's real! Diving Eagle Mangles the Rabbit!" To drive his point home, Yue Fei applied pressure to his hold, dislocating Guan Yu's arm. "Do you surrender!"
Guan Yu grit his teeth. "Never have I, Guan Yu, surrendered-"
"Very well. You fought bravely, although not nearly as bravely as I did back in the winter of '63, when my force of 800 men was surrounded by an entire touman. I can at least give you a warrior's death." Drawing a rather large knife, Yue Fei grinned. "This is a little something Connor MacLeod showed me. Apparently, when you behead an immortal, you gain their powers. So here goes!"
Guan Yu's body glowed bright red as his head moved to a different neighborhood. The red manifested itself as a brilliant crimson wolf-dragon, which some recognized as the Ya Zi. The creature circled the arena, then rammed itself into Yue Fei's body, knocking the general down. Ten minutes later, he got back up. A blood-red glow of energy surrounded him.
     "I have the power!"
In the cheap seats, Skeletor grumbled. "Why does everyone steal my line! Yue Fei, is it, you'll be hearing from my lawyers!"
