Teacher Profile:

Mindy Varner is a Colorado native and Japan specialist pursuing a Ph.D. in Japanese history at the University of Kansas. I spend summers at my home in Loveland, consulting on Japanese education and offering private tutoring in Japanese language and culture to adults and young people in northern Colorado.

My experience in teaching Japanese  extends back to the time of my MA program in East Asian Studies at Yale University, 1998-2000. I taught Japanese language, culture and history courses at
Colorado State University during the period 2003-2008, and also instructed courses on Japanese history at the University of Wyoming in Laramie during the 2006-2007 academic year.

My personal and research interests include Asian art, reading, gardening, and a long-time involvement traditional Japanese 
tea ceremony and theater.
