12/21/01 Mr. December: Tom Most Beautiful Man for Dec. 2001 |
![]() Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap over prom limos in a single bound! It's a brooding high school hunk, it's a budding superhero, it's... Clark Kent! Kent, yes. Tom Welling is the superstud behind the WB's Clark Kent. Tom Welling, familiar to television audiences from a recurring role on Judging Amy, makes his series starring debut in Smallville as a teenage Clark Kent struggling to come to grips with his emerging superpowers. Tom Welling stars as freshman man of steel, a boy who is still discovering his powers and literally gets weak in the knees every time he sees Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk). His parents, Martha and Jonathan, discovered him at the age of three in the cornfields of Smallville after a fatal meteor shower. Clark is flanked by two best friends Pete (Sam Jones III) and Chloe (Allison Mack). They'll help Clark discover the bad things going on in Smallville, while remaining ignorant of his true identity. "Smallville" has some fun showing viewers the origins much Superman folklore -- look for references to the name Superman, the red cape, and the "S" on his chest. Sure, this is another show about a disenfranchised teen trying to come to terms with his destiny. Smallville is chock full of fantastic special effects, and great romance. With perfect teeth and perfect hair, Welling seems poised to become the next big teen star. Welling is dreamy, awkward, and pretty believable as the teenage man of steel. Born and raised in New York, Welling is fairly new to the acting world. He performed in a few high school theater productions before recently moving to Los Angeles to pursue a professional career. His first big break was landing six episodes on Judging Amy last season, playing opposite Amy Brenneman in a romantic role that drew raves. He landed the role of Kent after a nationwide search for a fresh face to play the part. Welling currently lives in Los Angeles. When not working, he enjoys reading, playing basketball with friends and running. ~~~www.mostbeautifulman.com added clark pics just for the occasion... clark's page CLICK

12/20/01 People' s Breakthrough 2001 -- Tom Welling |
It seems the media loves TW, he has been name in People's
breakthrough 2001:
(and a new pic!!!) ............................................................ No phone-booth changes, no flying and definitely no Lycra: The hit show Smallville (its October debut drew The WB's largest audience ever) is not your father's Superman. But Tom Welling, who plays the man of steel as a teenager, is a humble Clark Kent for the New Age. "I'm just proud to be working," he says, "and the fanfare the show is getting just adds to it." His TV dad, Dukes of Hazzard vet John Schneider, attests, "He has a good head on his shoulders. I just say, 'Remember where you came from, and don't take it too seriously.' " The 24-year-old former model comes from Upstate New York and made his prime-time debut this year in a guest role on CBS's Judging Amy. Despite the new attention, Welling, who relocated to L.A. in 2000, remains as grounded as his character. Costar Michael Rosenbaum, who plays a young (and not yet evil) Lex Luthor, sees to that: "I tell him if his head gets big, I'll start calling him Tom Swelling."

10/29/01 WB' Smallville gets Super Order |
By Josef Adalian HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a full-season order for "Smallville!" The WB has ordered an additional nine episodes of its teen Superman drama "Smallville," ensuring the series will produce 22 episodes this season. The pickup comes a mere week after "Smallville" debuted to the WB's best-ever premiere ratings. Over two weeks, "Smallville" has averaged 7.8 million viewers. The new take on the Superman legend features Tom Welling as the teen of steel. Unlike previous incarnations, "Smallville" has what producers have called a "no tights/no flights" rule, which means Welling will not be seen in the traditional Superman costume and won't take to the skies.
*** im not so sure im down for the "no tights/no flights" rule... i can understand no cape, but his flying it would seem would be a major advancement in his powers and offer some storylines...not to mention it is by far clark's most impressive power. see!!!! |
