Shoah Midterm Exam

Some Guidelines for Ivy Seniors 1-2-3-4

by Moon Tahn il

A. Pre-Reading Concerning Anti-Semitism and the Shoah

You have researched and watched a video and discussed and laid bare your views on a specific topic vis-a-vis Shoah. One student, Ms Chang, asked me about how I owuld grade the midterm exam. Originally, I had planned to let you all focus on a specific topic regarding the Shoah, and then have a debate on Anti-Semitism in classs, which would serve as the basis for the exam. Then I talked with Mr. Johnson (and you know how capable he is of turning and twisting my heart to the point of contrition!). All was changed, puffed into thin air: you would [have been able to] write [the midterm] on just about anything you have researched, watched, discussed and laid bare. Well, Not ANYMORE. For once I changed my mind. Again?

Yes, one more time.

Please find attached an article ("This is about Israel, not anti-semitism") written by the incumbent London mayor, Mr. Ken Livingstone, a Jewish fellow. This is WHAT I will be looking at when I prepare your midterm.

B. Things to Consider as You Read

1. Read the article (linked below) a couple of times;

2. Get acquainted with some of the phraseology (vocabulary and/or tenor of expressions);

3. Get a general outlook of what is actually happening in Europe and the Middle East in general, and in Israel in particular;

4. Have a clear understanding of anti-semitism and know how to define it in a reasonably argue fashing;

5. Get a view! Prepare to write an essay in which you defend/criticize/EXPAND on Mr. Livingstone's stance.
