This isn't really me, or is it ? . . .
Vital Stats
- Webmaster alias - Meredith Curtis Minkley - (a.k.a. - Rusty)
- S.W.M. / 5' 10" / 130 lbs / Green eyes / Long Blond (sorta) hair / Good health (cough , cough) for a smoker.
- Born September 4, 1952 (that's 46 for you math wizards).
- Native Floridian - Born in Orlando's Orange Memorial Hospital a.k.a. Orlando Regional Medical Center and currently "my Homey" is in Port Orange (just south of Daytona Beach for you geography wizards).
- Attended Lockhart Elementary and Junior High, then on to Maynard Evans High School (Class of '70).
- Attended Auburn University for nearly two years before winning Uncle Sams lottery and serving two years
in the army as a radio operator (most of the time spent just outside Nurnberg, W. Germany).
- After doing my duty, I moved to Daytona Beach, where I attended D.B.C.C. and received an A.A. and a F.A.B.R.A.C.*
- Having run out of courses at D.B.C.C., I moved on to F.S.U., where I majored in Mass Communications. I thought I wanted to be a disk jockey until I realized there were more jobs in T.V., and T.V. paid more (Just remember what Willie Sutton said).
- I returned to D.B.C.C. after F.S.U., and worked in the L.R.C. (Library / Media Center) in various capacities until making the mistake of thinking commercial T.V. would be more exciting. I started at WESH-TV, [NBC/Ch. 2 locally] in 1980 as part-time cameraman / lighting / audio / etc. I stayed in the production department for two years before getting the itch to really get technical, when I transferred to the engineering department. So I'm still at WESH-TV, where I've become an experienced and highly technical "button pusher" with a smattering of "knob turning" thrown in for good measure.
* Frisbee And Beach Related Activities Certificate - I'm a "card-carrying" member of the International Frisbee Association.
Hobbies / Interests
-
Music - collecting (<- follow the link for the list) and listening; just don't ask me to play or sing.
- Reading - From Asimov to Vonnegut ( a few Brautigan, Hesse, Tolkien etc) I even have some Shakespeare !
- Computing - Started on a TRS-80 Mod. 1, graduated through XT and "486" and currently Pentium - and a confessed "NET-HEAD" (obvious isn't it?).
- Electronic Toys - How many people do you know with a remote control in their car and a smart remote that turns on my stereo, TV and VCR every morning? (it even rewinds the tape, but it doesn't make the coffee)
- Motorcycling - I have a 1982 Honda Magna V-45 (750 cc) complete with radio/tape player ( I love my toys !)
- Do-It-Yourself Stuff - You know, fixing stuff around the house and in general making a mess of the garage.
- White water Rafting - My fall '95 vacation was down the Chattooga (sect. 3), I planned to go down sect. 4 in the spring '96, until I bought a new computer - next year !
Travels
- Brasilia - Home of my "Angel" (actually, "OUR" apartment)
- Stonehenge - While in Germany I took off to England to see the mysterious rocks in the middle of nowhere, dating to c. 2000-1800 B.C. , what can you say except IMPRESSIVE ! (well also WEIRD but neat !)
- Cliffs of Dover - Would you believe the Castle there has toilet paper that is printed with "Property of Her Majesty" (or some such nonsense).
- German Alps - The Beer is great all over Germany; Garmish & Berchtesgaden in particular are beautiful ski resorts.
- American Southwest - 8 week field school in Archaeology & Anthropology, visited Indian sites in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah & Colorado. Carlos Castaneda would have been proud, but watch out for the "Loco Weed" , it's a Killer !
- American East Coast - 1976 Bi-Centennial tour of Historical sites from Florida to Nova Scotia (another field school worth 6 credit hours).
- Smoky Mountains - Several trips to Pigeon Forge / Sevierville area to oooh & aaah at the Fall Season colors. Once, I even rode the motorcycle from Daytona Beach, boy was I stupid; it rained, . . . I got wet; . . . then cold; . . . riding through the mountains was great, but I'll never do that again!
- DeLand, Florida - Not very far from where I live, but what a trip ! You've got to see it to believe it.
