Earth: Final Conflict: Motherlode

Augur is placed into a sensory deprivation tank for crimes he hasn’t committed and it is up to Liam and Renee to rescue him when he is broken out by an amoralist with a plan for grand theft.

Maybe I’m just stupid, but this episode really didn’t hold together for me. I don’t understand how Augur finished up in the Sendep centre in the first place. I don’t understand what Hubble’s link is to it all, I don’t know why Liam goes after a woman as I don’t understand what her link to it all is, I don’t get why her operation is protected with mind-bending technology and I don’t get Sandoval’s involvement. I also think Zo’or’s rather literal love of gold is taking things too far and it’s overplaying things.

Anyway, aside from that, there’s some good stuff here. The Sendep operation is pretty cool, Augur’s involvement adds a personal touch for Liam that helps, the way Zo’or’s gold is returned is marvellous and the Mission: Impossible-style stuff is cool, from the masks to the escapes via one-use portal. Likewise, the duplicate Taelons towards the end allow Anita La Selva and Leni Parker to act out of character. It’s a slight shame that this didn’t become an exciting final showcase for Augur ending in his heroic death, especially as the people called to help him seem to be in no rush considering the man has 60 seconds to live.

It’s just that in the end, although it’s satisfying to see the Resistance getting a victory for a change, I’m still not entirely sure what happened in the end…
