Earth: Final Conflict: Dark Matter

A piece of dark matter collides with the Taelon mothership, slowing down the energy of the Taelons on board. Sandoval is keen to seize his chance for vengeance, but Liam has a dangerous plan to save the race.

At last this series seems to be making some progress. With the Taelons in a dire predicament, Sandoval demonstrates all of his pent-up frustrations by planning to kill Zo'or in a death that will feel to the Taelon like an eternity. He's a dangerous man, and it seems only the Taelons are stopping his masterplan.

Some of the disparate plotlines are starting to be tied together as Da'an is once more asked to seize power from Zo'or, and we find out what happens when a Taelon touches a human. Renee's infusion with Taelon energy will hopefully be followed up at a later point. It's good to see Da'an as a sympathetic character once more, and we know more about how the Taelons' mission was meant to proceed. It's also interesting to see the Atlantic National Alliance 'at home' and their attitude to the Taelons. The fact that Liam has to put his own life on the line demonstrates their lack of compassion, but potentially their good sense as well.

I still have a couple of problems however. Sandoval takes far too long to do anything threatening, and the way Liam's bomb doesn't work is much too much of a cop-out. But not as much as the arrival of Ha'gel, seemingly from nowhere and with a message for Liam. The producers have decided to make Liam fully human at last, but at least they let him use his powers one last time. It's too easy an ending, but it opens up more questions for the future about Liam's destiny, even if it does seem strangely foresighful that he was born for exactly this function: to remove the dark matter. That's pretty specific, as plans go...
