After eating our final breakfast in our dining shelter, our unit hiked over to Cabot Park Beach for a swim. First, we did an environmental challenge, which involved a mock oil spill. We had to go into the water and rescue the plastic ducks used to represent wildlife. We also had to retrieve coloured plastic balls, used to represent the oil. We also learned a bit about the Exxon-Valdese oil spill off the coast of Alaska in 1989. After all that, I spent some time immersed in the salt water of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. It was very refreshing. One of the leaders and I were the only two from our unit who actually dared to go any distance out into the Gulf. We went back to camp for lunch, then we hiked to the shore of Malpeque Bay out towards the Clam Bake to do some sailing. The sailing had to be called off because of high winds. We were not too disappointed, since I think we were all very tired after a week of activities. We watched the Mud Mazing event for awhile, then we considered seeing if we could use the zip wire over at the Snakes 'n' Ladders event. It was already closed since the jamboree was almost over, so we headed back to camp. We helped the other two units dismantle the troop site.
After supper, we went to the closing ceremonies. On the way there, I was lucky enough to get a close-up view of Canadian Governor-General Adrienne Clarkson, who passed by us in the car she was riding in on Ramsays Road. To start closing, the local Celtic band Kindle performed for us. Then, Adrienne Clarkson spoke along with Sam Elsworth. There was going to be a video dance afterwards, but our troop, like many troops, chose to go back to camp. Part of our hike back included walking under a Canadian flag that another troop was carrying on Ramsays Road. At 9:45, I had a shower. I was glad I was wearing a bathing suit, for it was very windy and curtains were blowing open, as usual. Unfortunately for one boy who wasn't wearing a bathing suit, his curtain blew open and some of the guys saw his birthday suit! I went back to camp and I planned to stay up until 11, but I got cold and tired so I went to bed early. We were told to be up the next morning at 5 a.m., so we could finish taking down our site and be on the road by 9:30.
