King's Highway 5
Highways
Hwy 5 originally was an alternate route to Hwy 2, running from Hwy 2 near Paris to Hwy 2 at Cliffside, in Metropolitan Toronto. In 1998, all but a tiny 13-km section near Hamilton was downloaded. The remaining section of Hwy 5 today serves as a connection between Highways 8 and 6 across the north end of Hamilton, allowing drivers to bypass Dundas to access the downtown area.

Highway 5 was one of seven conventional King's Highways that existed in Metropolitan Toronto prior to downloading in 1998. This is a very old, worn-out King's Highway 5 shield located at the end of the offramp from Hwy 427 to The East Mall. Photo taken from the Cloverdale Mall parking lot, 22 July 2002.
