Ryan's Birth Story
Well this is a story that I'm delighted to tell.  After we lost Cody,  we honestly never thought it would be possible to have a successful pregnancy.  When our doctors asked "are you ready to try again"  we just said we are leaving it in God's Hands.  We would not be using any form of BC.  Only suggestion my doctor made, and I'm glad he did, was to continue taking my prenatals.  Well on Dec 19, 2001 (Jamie's birthday & almost two years after Cody's birth) we discovered I was pregnant again.  Normally a time of great joy (which it was) but it was shadowed by great fear as well.  Was I strong enough to face this again.  Could I beat this, could I remain healthy for my baby?

Well my doctor was wonderful throughout my very NORMAL pregnancy.  We took precautions right from the beginning.  I was not allowed to exercise.  I was expected to take it easy and not over do it.  We also took every minor cold or sniffle seriously and I was treated with antibodics.   I was also treated for Group B Strep at 14 weeks even though I tested negative for it.  My doctor did this due to the high rate of false negatives associated with the Group B test. Pathology for Cody showed infection in my uterus and we were taking precautions to avoid a repeat.  I was also on prenatals as well as additional C and E.  There have been some studies that suggest C & E may have an inpact on the strength of the membranes (bag of waters).  Well I don't know if we hit the right formula or not but at 40 weeks a very large and uncomfortable momma showed up at the doctor's office with only minimal change in my cervix.

At 40 weeks we decided it was time to induce.  There was some concern that if he was allowed to grow anymore I would be forced to have a C section.  This was a very good decision.

After a few hours on Poticin and minimal change in my cervix my doctor decided it was time to break my bag of waters.  Ha!  How ironic isn't it?  Anyway this little trick worked because my cervix started to respond nicely.  I started Poticin at 7:30 am and was fully dilated around 2pm.  Okay now down to work.  Let's just said I was very disappointed after almost 3 hours and very little progress.  At about 4:30pm my doctor was called and I could tell the nurses expected a C-section.

I can not say enough about selecting a good old expereinced Doctor to deliver your baby.  After my doctor arrived he quicly assessed that Ryan was sunny side up instead of the normal sunny side down.   My doctor did a little procedure were he turned the baby in the birth canal.  After that it only took 3 pushes and Ryan was crowning.  Of course little Mister big head required more room than I had so I received a moderate cut and Ryan was here at 5:06pm.

Ryan did very well, needed a little suction to clear his breathing passages but did wonderfully.

I would like to thank Dr. Armstrong and his wonderfully dedicated staff for putting up with me and making this delivery a wonderful expereince.
