Characters and Retinues Characters can be a Lord of any race in the Warhammer
world. As normal, Lords can choose from 100pts worth of magical items from
their respective army books, and can have any other equipment they are
entitled to (shield, armour or steed).
Characters cannot have more than one item for
each item type (Weapon, Armour, Talisman, Enchanted, Arcane), unless
otherwise noted in the item’s description (e.g. quest items). Characters start off with 200pts to spend on Retinues and can choose any troop type from their respective army. Retinues are treated as a unit and must
consist of the same troop type (minimum unit size does not apply). ‘Lone
wolf’ characters not wishing to have a retinue may use the 100pts (of the
200) towards his magic items (giving him 200pts for magic items to start
with). After
a battle, retinues respawn to their original state,
UNLESS the entire retinue was destroyed, in which case it costs the character
1 fame point to respawn his retinue. Only
after a retinue has been destroyed in battle can a characters can change the
troop types, their numbers, and their equipment, given he has enough points
to spend. Fame Points Fame
points (fps) allow characters to spend more on their magic items or their
retinues. Fame points are earned from fighting and winning against other
characters or NPC’s. The current fame point score of all
characters can be viewed in the Current stats
page. To
calculate how many fame points are earned from a victory, divide the total
cost of the defeated opponent (including magic items, retinues, other
characters)by the total cost of the winner, and
round up. An
example, a duo of a Beastlord 335pts and Chaos Lord
495pts (with 200pts
worth of retinue between them) fight an Elf Lord 550pts. The elf somehow
wins. The total cost of the losers (335+495+200) is divided by the elf’s
total of 550: 1030/550 = 1.9. So the elf gains 2 fame points to spend. Note
that the fame point scoring system is cumulative, but the points allowance
bonus is not (i.e. with 3 fame points characters can spend an extra 50pts,
not 50+25+15pts. During
the campaign, characters must declare when they wish to spend their fame
points. The
table below is constructed in such a way that it pays off to accumulate fame
points rather than spend one at a time.
There are 4 types of magic items in the Daemon War campaign.
The first type of
items are the ones characters start off with and are race
and/or class specific. The second type is customized magic items (e.g. Eagle
Shield, Grimdaka). The standard Warhammer
rules still apply to these items and characters cannot be equipped with two
of the same type. The third and fourth types of items are Quest and Key items.
These items have no restrictions attached to them and can be picked up by
anyone. Quest and Key items are also ‘free’ so do not count towards a
character’s total cost. Each item, apart from those brought in from outside the
campaign, has an NPC guardian protecting it which must be defeated first. The
location of every item and guardian is shown in the map room. Characters can
journey to these locations whenever they feel the need, except where Quest
items are concerned. Characters cannot access Quest item locations until the
respective Key item has been found. Combat (rules
of engagement) Combat arises
from the following situations: Individual combat: Character vs.
Character Character vs.
Group of Characters Character vs.
NPC(s) Group combat: Group of
Characters vs. Character Group of
Characters vs. Group of Characters Group of
Characters vs. NPC(s) In
Individual combat, both opponents count as charging and a higher initiative
allows the first strike. If both
opponents have the same Initiative value, roll to see who goes first. Magic
can be cast at the beginning of each combat phase, before hand-to-hand combat
rolls. In
group combat, the same combat rules apply, but characters must declare
before-hand who fights who. Not all character in a group need be involved in
the hand-to hand fighting as some may stay back and cast magic, but this must
be declared prior to the engagement. Retinue’s in
combat:
Character
with retinue vs. Character with retinue: If
both sides in a fight have retinues then three scenarios can take place. a)
the characters can order their retinues to fight each other first before
engaging in individual combat , b) character fights character and retinue
fights retinue at the same time but as two individual combats, c) both
characters and retinues can charge together an engage in one big melee. In
scenario a) the winning retinue and character can rejoin and attack en masse,
or the retinue can carry on by itself and attack the opposing character
(while the commander sits back or shoots/cast magic) In
scenario b) whoever is the first to win in the character vs
character or retinue vs retinue battles can join
the on-going battle in the next combat phase Character
vs. Character with retinue: If
one side in the fight doesn’t have a retinue, then the side with the retinue
has two choices: a) order the retinue to charge and only join in after the
entire retinue has been destroyed or won. Or b) join
the retinue and charge en masse against the lone enemy character. Post Mortem:
After
a fight the winner will regenerate back to his full number of wounds for the
next fight. A
retinue will respawn back to its full strength as
long as there as at least one troop still alive after the fight. If the
entire retinue has been destroyed, the character must spend 1 fame point to
restore the retinue back to full strength. All
the inventory of the defeated character is laid bare before the victor. Quest
and key Items (if available) must be taken. Any other magic items may also be
looted UNLESS the item’s specification says it can only be used by a
particular race or character.
