Australia 2007 - Living and Working
The occasional thunderstorm can look very impressive - note the preparations on the bridge for New Year fireworks (a coat-hanger and diamond)
2007 - A big year!

We continued working, which was a great way to experience more of the reality of Australian life. Biggest contrast with American work life? Definitely the hours...most companies expect people to begin work around 8:30am, and most everyone leaves by or at 5pm. Granted, lunch breaks are less defined, and most people grab a quick bite to eat at their desks while they continue working. But overall the workplace is far more relaxed here. Gradually, Americanized hours are working their way into the Australian mentality. Glenn has had more and more instances where meetings were scheduled all day, and has had to work past 5pm many a time to try and find time for his real work to get done! But another key difference is the importance of family, so once we have a baby at home, he'll have coworkers urging him out the door sooner! And most weekends are preserved for family time, a fact which we noticed upon first arriving in Australia. You'll see many families out picnicking at the park, playing sport, and generally spending time with friends & family on weekends. We love that about Australia!
Above, our trip to Port Stephen at Christmas was enhanced by a visit from our friend Su-Lin (and the gorgeous beaches there!)..
Below, a ferry trip gave us great views of all the sailing that goes on in the Harbour. At right is our apartment pool, with stunning waterfront views of the Bridge and Opera House. We're really living rough, don't you think? Who wants to visit now?
