Erin's South Africa Journals - 11-17-02

Sunday was hard - I didn't want to leave the beach!  I know how easily Glenn gets bored, though, and he was pretty ready to get out of there. No sites of historical or cultural relevance nearby to visit! No agenda to rule our day! So we packed and were ready to go whenever the host was ready to shuttle us back to Knysna for our trip back to Plettenberg Bay. We played cards while we waited, as well as taking an early shore-walk. There were jellyfish everywhere along the beach that morning, and we weren't sure if they'd hurt to step on. So we avoided them and wore shoes.

The host was ready to leave by around 11am, so we got in the car and rode into Knysna. Sunday is a problem, though, as the group taxi's we'd been taking were mostly off this day, and the cheapest we could find back to Plett was 100 rand each!!! That's 10 times as much, so we ranted a bit, and our host decided he'd drive us all the way to Plett since he had a while to wait for the incoming clients! So nice! So we got a ride all the way to the gates of our condo complex in Plett, and paid 50 Rand for their gas and trouble (about $5US)!

We arrived at the condo around noon, and gleefully settled back in. Chris and Denise returned from the beach around 2, and we caught up for a bit, hearing their tales of the Knysna Elephant Park and telling ours of the Oodtshorn Ostrich farm and wildlife parks. We enjoyed a taco dinner they'd planned, and played another rousing round of shanghai rummy before bed - Denise was highly under protest to play, but ended up winning by a lot, while I was dead last!
Buffels Bay, the town, was a good ways around the beach from the hostel
