Erin's South Australia Journals - 12-03-02

Today I went with Glenn on our car shopping spree. We got up at our usual time, and were lucky enough to have the host sign us on again. We spent a couple of hours looking up some info on Fiji for our wedding, as the folks back home who plan to join us need to know where and when to book. We got some good info, but would need to talk to a travel agent to know more. We also checked our emails - some people are still just reading the news that we got engaged 2 weeks ago!  Glenn also made a few calls about car insurance, since we'd need to get some right away.

We headed out around noon in our crappy rental car, and visited a home in McGill (a suburb of Adelaide). It was a Toyota Corolla, belonging to a nice couple of pensioners, Fran and Geoff. They were just wonderful, showing us the car and giving us all the details about its low mileage history and maintenance, and we took to them immediately. We test drove the car, which drove great for an '86, and told them we'd check out a few more and let them know by 8pm that night. As we left, they gave us a wrapped present as a wedding gift! They were amazing, wonderful people.

For the rest of the afternoon, we drove to several used car dealers and checked out our options, since most of the other privately owned cars we were interested in had been sold, and finally around 7:30pm we realized we should take the deal of the century and drove back to Geoff and Fran's to let them know we'd buy their car. We agreed on a sweet deal of $3,000 AUD and made an appointment to meet them on Thursday at noon. This way we had a day in between to settle insurance details, etc.

We headed back to the house in Glenelg for our last night, triumphant, and  had a late dinner at Subway.
