Today was chore day, in preparation for our departure to Tasmania. We got up and shared breakfast with John & Elaine, then threw in our laundry, while Glenn took care of a few items on the car. I hung the clothes out on the line and checked them intermittently, while resizing photos for our website and catching up on a few emails. Glenn came back at lunchtime with some of the items for the car (new mats for the floors, a cooler, etc.), then talked for a while with his mom. One key benefit of staying with friends is the ability to take parental phone calls! Nice to hear the voices sometimes!!!

He then spent some time washing off and out the car - it was so filthy that his need for cleanliness was shrieking in pain whenever we got near the car - and I continued with my webwork. We packed up early, and shared an early but rushed meal with John and Elaine before heading off for the ferry terminal downtown. The city wasn't very easy to navigate, as it seemed that some of the roads on our map didn't do the things they were supposed to. We found ourselves suddenly on a different road than we thought we were on, and heading into the city center when we needed to be at the docks. So we gave up on the map and ended up following road signs to the ferry. Whatever works!!!

We got there in plenty of time, loaded our car on board and went up to explore the ship. This overnight journey would take about 10 hours, and we had booked cruise seats (like airline seats, but on a boat). When we located these, we also found our friends Marcel and Eveline, and spent the next few hours wandering the boat, chatting about our Ocean Road adventures, and talking about our Tassie itineraries. Around 11:30pm, there was a noticeable change in the movement of the boat that indicated we'd left the huge protected bay around Melbourne harbor. We all headed off to the cruise seats to try and ignore the rocking by sleeping. It wasn't easy for me, as I don't sleep much on airplanes, so around 3am I took my pillow and blanket out to the lounge area and lay on the bench seats, where I had a little more success and slept till the 6am wake-up call.
