Christmas at the Anderson's!!! The presents are wrapped with care, awaiting Xmas day and the kids. |
Erin's Victoria Journals 12-24-02 Our arrival back in Melbourne followed a long night on the ferry. I was up by 4am, and spent the time writing a couple of journals in a vain effort to catch up a little, then up on deck trying to get a good photo of the port area at dawn. It's hard when you're on a boat, moving constantly, and trying to take a long exposure shot!!! I got some fun blurry ones, and will buy a postcard of someone else's good professional shot! When we got in the car and drove off the ferry, we discovered that I'd accidentally thrown out our Melbourne map along with a bunch of junk pamphlets last night before boarding the ferry. This was hugely frustrating to Glenn, as we didn't know how to get back to Ivanhoe and our friends' house! Plus, it was 6am, and nothing was open in the city. Finally we stopped off in a 7-11 and bought a new map, and I drove so Glenn could navigate. We made it back out to the suburbs where we wanted to be after a few wrong turns, but couldn't show up so early at the Andersons, so we drove to the mall to see if we could get our Xmas presents for each other before going to their house. Still too early - nothing was open except a few grocery stores. We did manage to find a coin-operated car wash though, so we could get a majority of the dust and dirt off our poor car. Finally around 8:30am we drove to the Andersons and met their son Tim and his wife, who were in from London for the holidays. I was so tired and worn out from all the frustrations of the morning and my physical discomfort, that when we got there I promptly burst into tears and retired to the back of the house to try and get control of myself. I was embarrassed, but Elaine came and made me feel at ease, and Glenn came and sat with me and we both made our apologies for our short tempers this morning. Finally I felt better and was able to join the group for breakfast. We then made our way back out to the mall to get our Christmas presents, which we had decided would be engagement / wedding rings to use in our Fiji wedding. We also got a little something for our hosts to thank them for sharing their house and holidays with us, and Glenn got a haircut (yippee). Successful shopping felt good, and when we got home we showered up and relaxed for the rest of the day. We had a late dinner with John and Elaine, then went to bed early (I really needed it!). |
