Glenn's Journal 01-31-03  Sydney

Friday provided us a chance to sleep in as we did not need to be in town until noon. We couldn't check in to the Sydney Central YHA until after noon so that set the start of the day in town. We caught the 11:11 am bus into town which has us at the central train station by 12:40 pm. We made our way to the YHA which was only a few blocks away and checked in. We had reserved a 4 bed dorm room and it was actually really nice. The hostel seemed relatively new and was very clean. We were on the eighth floor with a view of the clock tower. Not bad!!!

After dropping our bags we quickly headed out to find Angie. Angie was the travel agent who had booked our Fiji package which included our flight and accomodations on the Coral Coast of Fiji for the first week of March. We spent an hour asking questions about Fiji including things to do, markets, and the wedding package available. Erin and I decided to work out the wedding package with Crusoe's Retreat ourselves. We are getting really excited as our parents and a few friends are joining us in Fiji for the week. Only a month a way!!!

Our next task was to find some dress pants and shoes for me to wear to the theater tonight. Erin wanted to see Riverdance and it was opening at the Sydney Entertainment Center tonight and we had reservations. We had not needed dress clothes and they didn't especially pack well in the backpack. We started at the Paddy market in Haytown where I did find shoes and socks but with no luck on the pants. We hurried on to the mall upstairs and tried a few stores before heading on to the QVB (Queen Victoria Building). We were in a hurry as most places close here at 5:00 or 5:30 pm. There are very few places that stay open past 6:00 pm. We found some pants at the Polo store just in time. We took a few more minutes in the mall and found a store that had wedding dresses. The wedding dress on display caught our eye so we went in. Erin looked through the dresses on the rack and selected four dresses to try on. We determined that the first dress that she tried on (the same one as the display) was "the one". We were excited about the dress and put it on hold until tomorrow when we could pick it up as we were leaving town. We didn't want to have to carry it around all day tomorrow.

By now it was later than we had planned as the wedding dress stop was not in the plan. It was almost 6:00 pm and the theater started at 8:00 pm and we had not cleaned up yet. We agreed to grab a quick bite (instead of a more formal dinner) so we could clean up and still make tit to the show on time. We arrived at the Entertainment Center around 7:30 pm and picked up our tickets at the box office before going in. Erin had a glass of wine before finding our seats. The show lasted over 2 hours and was fantastic. Erin had seen it before and enjoyed it even more than the first time. The show ended after 10:00 pm and we made our way to the Chinese market area where they were celebrating the Chinese New Year. The place was packed even at 10:30 pm. Erin was not used to walking in heels so we returned to the hostel by 11:00 pm. We were very lucky as noone else had been assigned to our dorm room so we had the place to ourselves. Sweet!!! We didn't stay up too late as we have a busy day planned for tomorrow.
