Glenn's Journal for 9-19-02 - Berlin

Today we agreed to visit a few more museums as Berlin has over 170 museums to choose from. We decided on the museum of Natural History, the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection, and the New Jewish Museum or the German Cathedral. Our first stop was the Museum of Natural History which was within walking distance of the hostel. The museum houses some of the largest skeletal remains of the prehistoric dinosaurs. They also have quite an overall collection of bones and remains of many different species of animals throughout the years. We spent an hour and a half here before heading on.
Our next stop was the Egyptian museum which houses the beautiful bust of Queen Nefertiti. The collection included many artifacts of inscription, pottery, sculptures, and jewelry. We also checked out the caskets and mummy wraps on exhibition.

By now we were starving as it was getting on 3:30 pm and we had only danish for breakfast. We stopped at a local Italian restaurant where we had pizza and pasta for lunch while taking a load off. Once we had finished lunch we decided to skip out on the last museum as it was close to 5:00 pm and the other museum closed at 6:00 pm. We went back to the hostel so Erin could catch a nap while I relaxed. Well, that did not last long as one of our new roommates (Fabio from Brazil) was there and we talked for a while before he took off. Then 30 minutes later another new roommate (Ben from Perth) came in. Erin awoke from her 10 minute nap and the three of us chatted before agreeing to stop in at happy hour for a beer. After happy hour the three of us headed out looking for dinner. We finally stopped at a Thai restaurant where we continued to share travel stories and comparisons between our countries and others.

After dinner Erin and I headed back to the room while Ben headed down to the bar for the midnight happy hour and to meet some other people (especially the ladies!!!). We crashed a little after 1:00 am. Tomorrow we head to Dresden.
The German Cathedral, which is in the same square as the Opera House.
