Glenn's Journal for 10-06-02 - Munich

Erin had read about all of the things to do in Munich and the surrounding area and had found some museums that were free to get into on Sunday's. So that was the plan. Museums would be a good idea as it was overcast and rainy today.

After another relaxing and complete breakfast with Helena and Andreas we headed off to Konigsplatz and the Pinakothek museums which included the Old, New, and Modern. We decided on the New Pinakothek museum which encompassed 18th and 19th century paintings and sculptures. We picked up an audio guide, which can be very useful in museums that only provide descriptions in German, to better understand what we were seeing and learn more about the artists and the times. Most audio guides have been very interesting for us. Erin took some amazing photos of some of the works throughout the museum (one of the few museums that allows picture taking). After about 2 1/2 - 3 hours in the museum we finally made our way back out.

Next was the Museum "Realm of Crystals" where we checked out different forms of rock, including crystals and gemstones, where they came from and where they were used in todays technology. Interesting!!!

By now it was raining pretty good and the line into the Modern Pinakothek museum was still out of the door and down the sidewalk. The museums closed at 5:00 pm and it was already after 3:00 pm so we decided against waiting in the rain and returned to the apartment. Helena and Andreas were gone so we had lunch before heading back out. We returned to the internet cafe to try our luck again with more photos but today we had no luck. We quickly converted to checking and sending e-mails before returning to the apartment around 6:00 pm.

We relaxed around the apartment before going out to dinner at a local Turkish restaurant with Helena and Andreas. They made some dinner and appetizer recommendations which we took upon and enjoyed a wonderful meal. We finished dinner around 11:00 pm and called it a night around 12:30 am. Helena and Andreas had to work on Monday and we were off to Fussen to see some castles.
This painting was on display in the Neue Pinokotek museum drawn during the late 1800's. I have seen this somewhere before!!!
