| Glenn's Journal for 10-16-02 - Amsterdam Wednesday and our last full day in Amsterdam. We still had one chore left at that was to transfer photos from the smart media cards to a CD. We really need to get this done so we have plenty of space available for photos in Africa. We never know when the next time we could get this done will be. We also want to see the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijks museum it time allows. We enjoyed the wonderful breakfast at the Best Western before checking out and heading towards the hostel. We took the tram around to central station before walking the rest of the way back to the hostel. We dropped our bags and went out to accomplish our last task. After a few tries we finally found a place that would transfer photos from 1 photo card to 1 CD. (They could not figure out how to transfer from more than 1 digital card to only 1 CD) Oh well!!! While we were waiting for the CD we stopped in for lunch. After lunch, and having picked up the CD, we made our way to the museum district. We stopped in to the Van Gogh museum and spent a few hours enjoying the many works that are on display. We finished touring the museum around 5:00 pm when we decided to take it easy for the rest of the night. We took the tram back to the hostel where we stopped into an internet cafe to check the photos on the disk and respond to a few e-mails. We returned to the hostel around 6:30 pm and relaxed while reading our books (or napping as I did). We went out for dinner around 8:30 pm and found a Turkish restaurant just around the corner. We enjoyed our last meal in Europe before returning to our dorm room. We did not walk through the red-light district tonight!!! We crashed early as we have a long day tomorrow. We have an 11:00 am departure to Nairobi. The flight is 7 1/2 hours so we want to be as fresh as possible. |
