Glenn's Journal for 11-12-02  Plettenberg Bay

Today also started off in more of a relax mode with a leisurely breakfast and preparation for the day. We headed off to Monkeyland around 10:30 am and arrived only 20 minutes later. Monkeyland included a 1+ hour walking tour through the park where we saw some lemur, gibbons, spider, and capucin (sp?) monkeys. They even had a few cages for the smaller monkeys (cages were only to protect the smaller monkeys from being eaten by the bigger ones). Otherwise the monkeys roamed freely around the park. They also had plans to expand in the coming years to include a gorilla sanctuary.

After Monkeyland we stopped into Langa Lapu Fabrics where we purchased a fantastic tablecloth and a few other items. Denise had heard about this place from another traveller that they had met along the way and this place was well worth the stop. They use local vegetation (leaves, etc.) to make the patterns on the material. Then you can either just buy the material or buy pre-made tablecloths, shirts, and jackets, only to name a few. I won't begin to tell you how many times Denise stopped into this place in the week and a half they were staying in Plett. They did buy some really neat things though!!!

After the shopping stop at Langa Lapu Fabrics we stopped into town again for a few things before returning to the condo for dinner. Tonight we enjoyed barbeque chicken cooked on the grill along with a salad, bread, and potatoes. What a wonderful way to end the day. We also played shangai rummy again, which Erin was very happy about. Tomorrow Erin and I are off to Oudtshoorn (Ostrich farms) and Buffels Bay (beach time) until Sunday when we will return to Plett.
A white-handed gibbon can be one of 4 colors. The white, shown here, is more rare.
