Glenn's Journal for 11-17-02  Return To Plett

It's Sunday morning and we are returning to Plettenberg Bay and the Goose Valley condo. We had arranged with Chris and Denise to leave the key under the mat so they would not have to worry about what time we arrived today. We had no idea when that would be either.

After breakfast we packed and waited for the shuttle back into Knysna. Garth, the hostel manager, said sometime between 10:00 and 12:00 this morning. This is South Africa and we are on Africa time (no hurries!!!). We were prepared to leave at 10:00 am if need be but after checking in with Garth he expected it to be another hour and a half. Well within the half hour Garth was ready to leave and off we were into Knysna. Once in Knysna Garth dropped us off at the taxi station but it wasn't the same one that we had used the other day. Erin checked with a driver only to be offered a ride for 100 rand each (only 10 rand each the other day) and that the other taxi stand was closed on Sundays. Garth was nice enough to take us around the corner to the taxi station where we had come in on only to verify that, sure enough, there was no one there. Lucky for us Garth was nice enough to take us all the way to Plettenberg Bay and Goose Valley (what luck!!!) since they had time before their next pickup in Knysna.

We arrived at Goose Valley around noon where we thanked the driver with 50 rand and packed or way up to the condo. We were very lucky as it continued to remind us how friendly and helpful the people of South Africa have been during our stay.

Upon our arrival Chris and Denise were not home so the key was under the mat as we had agreed. Erin and I were happy to be back at the condo in a very nice and comfortable place. Chris and Denise arrived home about an hour later. They showed us how to use the washing machine so we washed a few loads of clothes. We spent the afternoon sharing stories about the past week including their sunrise walk with the elephants at the Knysna Elephant walk. It sounds fantastic. Dinner was tacos tonight, which was simple to make and easier to clean up. Erin convinced everyone to play another game of Shanghai Rummy (Thanks Denise!!!) before heading off to bed. Tomorrow we are scheduled for a canopy tour. It is also Denise's birthday!!!
It was tough to say goodbye to the beach (and sunsets) of Buffels Bay, but we were happy to go back to Plett and our friends
