Triplett Falls which is a little side trip off the Great Ocean Road, but well worth the stop.

Glenn's Journals 12-12-02 Great Ocean Road

Thursday morning and we only have a 2 hour drive into Melbourne so we took our time getting on the road this morning. We had a few chores to accomplish before heading out including checking e-mails. We had e-mailed friends in Melbourne and Tasmania and were hoping for some responses. We found ten new e-mails from all of the people that we had hoped to visit over the next few weeks. We were also welcomed to stay with our Melbourne friends tonight. All good news!!!

We also stopped in the tourist information office in town and picked up a map for some local waterfalls. Our first stop was at the Maits Rest Rainforest Walk. The day was rainy so the walk was wetter than we had hoped but we made the best of it. This is why we have been carrying raincoats all around the world and since we ahd a chance to use them we should be happy. The rainforest was interesting and was a 20 minute walk. We then headed into the mountains where we found two different waterfalls. The walks were each of differing distances and still very wet and muddy. We finally started heading to Melbourne around 1:30 pm.

On the way to Melbourne we stopped in Lorne for lunch before continuing on. The Great Ocean Road was extremely beautiful with amazing ocean views. The drive is quite a bit slower along the Ocean Road since it follows the curvature of the land. We finally made it Melbourne around 5:30 pm but it took us another hour to get across town to our friends place. We ahd forgotten about rush hour traffic in a big city. We arrived around 6:30 pm and were warmly welcomed into John and Elaine's home. Elaine prepared dinner around 8:30 pm and we found ourselves talking until after 11:00 pm. We finally called it a night as Erin and I had chores to accomplish tomorrow. We would also catch the 9:00 pm ferry to Tasmania tomorrow night.
