| Serendipity On 25 November 2004 at a reception, I ran into a classmate from fourth grade; thinking that she must be my ex-classmate's daughter because she looked just like her - yet - too young to be my schoolmate - I thought. It turned out that it was really Ma Seen Mui, Irene herself, the very same girl whom I had gone to school with and had parted since 1976. Can you imagine how happy and thrilled we were when I finally told her who I am ? We then got together with another girl from the same class over the weekend. The reunion inspired me to write my first Chinese poem in the 21st century. |

| Gratefulness - In retrospect, 2004 has been a very inspiring and enriching year. I have met a lot of interesting, fun and talented people as well as valuable old friends - far or near! "How far we travel in life matters far less than those we meet along the way" - very true indeed. I am most grateful. Sadness & Frustration - I am worried about mom's health and wish that I could spend more time with her althoguh she can really drive me crazy. She has all the most common health problems like high blood pressure, high sugar level and uric acid...etc. However, since she doesn't live in Hong Kong, there is not much I can do. With all the social and political problems, living in Hong Kong has become a very frustrating experience on a day to day basis. Quality of everything is going down except for phone and internet services. The calibre and attitude of people - esp. civil servants - have become so pathetic that I am not optimistic about Hong Kong's future at all. According to Kwokism - the world is so screwed up because majority of the people think with their emotions rather than with reasons. Moreover, majority of the people react to problems or pain rather than responding. That gives rise to more problems over problems - thus the vicious circle - the tragicomedy of our present world. Watch out for those whose second toes are longer than their big toes ! In a friend's recent newesletter, she mentioned God's healing the "brokeness" in the world and in ourselves through peace, grace and joy. It is difficult even to get the world or oneself to honestly recognize, identity and admit the "brokeness" to begin with. Just if everyone could focus on oneself; have the courage and the strength to do a little bit of soul searching and healing day by day...little by little... our society, our country and our world could become a little less broken everyday. Dreams - Tangibly, I hope China will revert to using traditional Chinese characters. I hope I will learn to tame my tongue and learn to become a strategic thinker. Continually, I hope my annual discord with Henry would end in attaining a deeper understanding and a bigger heart for each other. All in all, the goal is to achieve a healthy balance by maintaining mental, emotional and spiritual fitness. Dreams for Hong Kong - I hope the Central Police Station will be preserved, and the Western Kowloon development won't have a canopy. The rest - I shall view it with one eye opened one eye closed. Thank you for reading ! Wishing Each of You a Memorable New Year of Joy and Fulfillment ! Lvoe & Cheers Sherry |
