Rosella Trotter Long Hi Friends! I'm trying to write a real note this time - Last year's message was just what I had scribbled on the back of a Christmas card to Debbie - I wasn't trying to be "cryptic"! Well, this year has been a special one for me because I finally joined so many others of you in graduation from higher education, and entry into NORMAL life. And it is wonderful! I finished my M. Div. (Master of Divinity) and my M.S.W. (Master of Social Work) in May. No, I wasn't trying to be impressive by getting two degrees; it just took me a long time to figure out what I really wanted to do. I have now started my first "Real" job, after many years of part-time work while in graudate school, and I love it. I am working as a social worker on an adolescent psychiatric unit (inpatient). My responsibilities are to keep the family involved in the patient's treatment and to do family therapy. It is challenging, I feel like I learn new things everyday, and I really do enjoy my work. I'm also starting on my second year of married life, and still like it too! (Of course 2 years is nothing compared to Mark Skiles - I guess you guys are up to year 9 by now?!). My husband, Don Long, who is from Minnesota, also graduated from seminary (a few years ago), and works in the counselling field. He is a Chemical Dependency Counsellor, and works especially with alcoholics and their families. Even though Don & I both went to seminary, we actually met - here's a fun one - on a anti-apartheid march in Washington, D.C.! It makes a good story. Well, that's what we're up to. My parents are planning to retire (from Macau) in September 1992, so we are planning to reunite the Trotter family in Macau this Christmas, for the last time. Don and I are very excited about going - he'll get to see "our" part of the world for the first time. We plan to spend a week in Indonesia, where I grew up, as well. I'm also keeping my ears open for the 10-year reunion in Denver. Don't know for sure if we can come, but we're going to try to. Well, I guess I better stop before I use up everyone else's newsletter space. Take care - Rosella Trotter & Don Long P.S. Daniel, I liked your down-to-earth explanation of theology and seminary in the last newsletter! |
