June 10, 2003 - Jeff was not able to seerve, even after the cortisone injection, and has pulled out of Queens Club and Wimbledon. He is taking a conservative approach to his return to competition, and hopes to play in Newport, R.I. at the Miller Lite Hall of Fame Championships beginning July 7, 2003. Thanks for all of your support and encouragement. May 28, 2003 - Jeff has continued to train hard in the weight room and on the court. Unfortunately his stomach muscle pull has continued to hamper his ability to serve. Jeff had an MRI performed yesterday, and will receive a cortisone injection in his abdomen. He hopes to be able to play at Queens Club which begins June 9, 2003. He has withdrawn from next week's Surbiton Challenger, where he is the defending singles champion. April 15, 2003 - XL Capital Bermuda Open - Singles - First Round - April 13, 2003 - Jeff enjoyed the exhibition in Fort Worth, TX, and is now in Bermuda preparing for his Tuesday match in the XL Capital Bermuda Open against Harel Levy (ISR) in the first round. Mardy had to cancel his appearance in the exhibition since he was accepted into the Main Draw at Monte Carlo. Alex Kim substituted for Mardy, and approximately $20,000 was raised for the Fort Worth YMCA. April 7, 2003 - Jeff has returned to Tampa. He has been receiving physical therapy on his back and is doing well enough to begin hitting tomorrow, April 8, 2003. His back problem was a muscle strain. If all things continue to go well, Jeff will leave for his exhibition in Fort Worth, TX with Mardy Fish on Friday, April 11, 2003. He will go straight from the exhibition to Bermuda, and then to the US Clay Courts in Houston. Jeff has received a Wild Card Singles Entry into the main draw of that tournament. Jeff has drawn the 4th Seed from Croatia - Ivan Ljubicic in Singles. Jeff played Ljubicic as a Wild Card in the 1999 US Open 1st Round after winning the NCAA Singles Championship. Ljubicic defeated Jeff in straight sets in that tournament. Jeff is playing doubles in this tournament with Max Mirnyi from Belarus. They will meet the Australian Wild Card team of Ashley Fisher and Stephen Huss. Also, Jeff wants to thank all of his friends who attended the HTA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and participated in the Junior Clinic at Ritter Park - he had a great time at both. CBS TV Show "TOPSPIN" is filming an episode to air in the summer of 2003 with Jeff and Mardy Fish in Tampa on Thursday, December 19, 2003. The production of the show will include Jeff and Mardy hosting a home-cooked dinner in their apartment with guests James and Thomas Blake (among others). Should be some show! Air times will be advised when available. Jeff has been advised that he will qualify, based upon his ranking, for the Singles Main Draw in both the AAPT Championships in Adelaide, and the Australian Open in Melbourne. Tribute
to a friend(November 1, 2002) NEW INFORMATION: Jeff has been dealing with a knee problem (Patella Tendonitis) for several years. During his play in Asia, his knee bothered him to an extent that his ability to compete was hampered. His knee has recently been evaluated by two orthopedic surgeons. The aggressive approach is to have surgery to remove the degenerated portion of the tendon. This approach would require 3-6 months of rehabilitation. The conservative approach is to rest the knee for two weeks and manage the problem with less strain on the tendon and routine therapy. Jeff has opted to try the conservative approach, and has just completed two weeks of rest. As of Monday, October 28th, he is practicing and performing conditioning in Tampa, and evaluating his knee on a daily basis. The early reports are great! His knee is pain free so far. If the knee continues to do well Jeff will play in the Knoxville, TN Challenger beginning Nov. 11. Additionally, this WEBPAGE will continue to be updated routinely, and will be the best source of up-to-date information on Jeff's tennis career.
