My Top 12 Favorite BNL Weekend Update Quotes

Posted at: The Beanie Zoo Group, 8/6/03

One of my favorite segments during Beanieday Night Live is the Weekend Update segment, and I think people wonder which quotes I think were the funniest out of the 23 chats we've done so far. If I had to choose out of only 12, these would be my picks:

#12: "In Vero Beach, Florida, Maureen Stapleton has a collection of Beanie Baby bears put up on display for Vero Palm Estates’ March showcase. No one has looked at it yet, so this weekend, you can go there for “Grandma Day”; all old ladies get in half-price." (Luck-E/Rover Buddy - 3/15/03)

#11: "Last Friday, Ty responded to a post on the Ty Talk Cyberboard saying that he actually went to a Hallmark store for Yours Truly and was asked his name, which wasn’t on the list. Hallmark didn’t put Ty’s name on the list because they have a policy against selling to greedy mongrels." (Serenity - 4/5/03)

#10: "A Planet Beans reader purchased Bubbles and Radar Beanie Babies on eBay and discovered they were counterfeit. When asked to comment, the reader said, 'You can tell because their a**es aren’t supposed to be this big.'" (UK/US HERO Bears - 5/10/03)

#9: "The Stately Bears collection has been completed with 50 bears for 50 states, as well as the retirement of the first edition Leaf and the Washington DC bear. They are waiting at the unemployment office with 50 checks for 50 lost jobs." (Snowgirl - 1/18/03)

#8: "Due to discouraging presale auctions, Ty Europe has stated that the upcoming Shakespeare Beanie Baby will be released with a different name. The press name at this time: Shakespeare." (Woody - 4/12/03)

#7: "Chubbley Bears will return to UK store shelves next week at the price of 4.99 pounds. Also available at 4.99 pounds: Calista Flockhart." (Chocolate - 7/12/03)

#6: "La Rue Horinek is now an official Countin’ Sheep flockist. So, if you live in Kansas, and live near La Rue Horinek, watch out for the Beware of sheep and Chubbleys sign on her house." (Pugsly – 4/26/03)

#5: "Dianne E. Butts, the author of the book Beanie Baby Stories, held a seminar today in Lamar, California, called How to find markets and submit your work. Diane was very pleased with the attendance, especially when they crowd chanted at the end, 'I like Dianne E. Butts and I cannot lie.'" (Nectar - 3/22/03)

#4: "The UK TV soap opera Coronation Street featured a Gobbles Beanie Buddy in one of the scenes from the show. It seems the subplot of the show was that Gobbles the Buddy wanted to know who was the biological father of Turk-E." (Scat - 2/8/03)

#3: "On Planet Beans, Sharon Nowell from North Carolina shared her collecting story with Lisa, saying that Beanie Babies still rule. I believe her, but with two competitors and one we beat, let’s just say for now, hail to the sheep." (UK/US HERO Bears - 5/10/03)

#2: "This week’s Ask Ty talks of June’s Beanie of the Month, saying the BOM can be found in the Virunga Volcano region of eastern Zaire. When I typed in a search, I got two different possible results of what the BOM can be: a mountain gorilla or Anna Nicole Smith." (Spunky - 5/31/03)

And for my #1, I picked the movie quote from the Mom-E chat on May 17:

Ty responded to the Ask Ty question, “Have you ever thought about making a Beanie movie?” by saying, “if you made a Beanie movie, what would the title be?” I for one have many suggestions: “The Godpappa”, “E.T.: The Extra Teddy”, “Wish the Starfish Wars”, “The Manny Reloaded”, “Lord of the Ringos: The Fellowship of the Ringo”, “Hope Alone”, “There’s Something About Maple”, “Pompey of the Apes”, “Gizmo With the Wind”, “Celebr8 Mile”, and my favorite, “My Big Fetch Grunt Weenie”.
