Do not vote for a candidate because of what they can do for you, vote for the candidate that you believe would make most of the same decisions you would make. Vote for the candidate that you believe will do what you think is in the best interests of all the people he represents, not what is in the interests of his campaign donors or who will put interests of any individual over the whole of the nation, even your own personal interests. In the end what is best for you, me and every individual in America is to have our government do what is best for us as a whole.
I believe if we stop doing things like “voting with my wallet” and voting for the candidate who promises a tax cut for our bracket and instead look at what is best for all Americans we will agree that it is wrong, morally, ethically, spiritually wrong in every way that in the richest nation in the world people die everyday because they can’t afford food, because they can’t afford shelter, or they can’t afford medical treatment. All of these things anyone can see when they walk through a grocery superstore, now with restaurants, pharmacies, and banks, but these things that can save people’s lives are just out of reach and will stay that way until our elected officials are ready to put politics aside and do what is right for the people they represent. And the only way to get them to do that is to hold them accountable.
We must make this awful situation the priority of our representatives. We must tell them that people should not die for lack of so little when they live in the land of plenty. We must tell our government that there should be a minimum standard of living in this country and that those of us that have more than we use are willing to help those that have nothing.
Our representatives need to know that we know that American ingenuity can overcome the problem of poverty as it has overcome every problem we as a nation have set out to tackle. And that we demand our government put American ingenuity to work on this problem or we will elect representatives who will get it done. We demand that our government look at all the entitlement programs that are so effective and do so much good and see if we can make them more efficient.
Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid do so much good to keep people out of poverty, but since they were created America has undergone massive growth and technological revolution. We must demand that our representatives come together and talk about real ways to make these programs more financially viable without giving up one bit of the promise that America made to its citizens when we created these programs. This is where we need a team to investigate technologies and synergies that will help thee programs become more solvent. They need to look at all the different ways various countries and organizations provide health care and see if there is a better way for Medicare and Medicaid to deliver, not ruling out completely changing the system.
I believe that if we work on the entitlement programs we can make them more efficient and we can enable them to be expanded to help more people. And when we begin to help more people out of the standard of living poverty forces them into now all Americans will see the benefits in their everyday lives. |
