My Quarter Pipe
Back
This is not a picture of my mini ramp...but it is a picture of the first quarter pipe I built.  I didn't really even plan it out..I just kinda threw it together.  I don't even know how far apart the 2x4's are (mistake #1), *they are supposed to be no more than 8" apart.  Also I built it 8' wide ...that was mistake #2, and you can tell when you ride it....it just doesn't feel solid.  *Don't build your quarter pipes more than 6' wide without supporting in the middle.
There are good aspects of this ramp despite its problems.  I have cut notches out of scrap 3/4" plywood which the 2x4's are placed on top of creating extra support.  Another good quality is that it is a fun ramp to skate and noone has died on it yet.
Also, I strongly recommend getting a circular saw to cut the 2x4's.  At the time I built this ramp all I had was an old drill and jig saw.  It took more time to cut those 2x4's with that saw than it probably would by hand!
This is the semi-finished product.  Mistake #3- I only put one layer of cheap 3/8" plywood on the surface.  I later added sanded plywood to it and it was a lot nicer.  *You always want the surface plywood to add up to at least 3/4".

The Plans
Check out my wicked carve on the beast back in my early years of skating!
Here we are moving the old Quarter Pipe out of my garage to make way for the new mini ramp.

You may notice it barely fit....another reason to make them only 6' wide.  It made the trip more interesting though, and it didn't fall out.
