| Why we like Alans | |||||
| I've asked
some people why they liked their particular Alan so much. Here's what they
said. If you'd like to talk to me about one of the three Alans, please e-mail me. Which Alan do you like? I like Rickman like a bishop needs to bless. I like Rickman like a dishcloth needs a mess. I like Rickman like a squeaky door needs Johnny Depp. I like Rickman like a moth needs a flame. I like Rickman under any name, or in silk pajamas, or with a placenta on his head. Why do you like this Alan? Alan Rickman shot my heart with an arrow. The sound of his name turns my knees to marshmallow. What would you say to Alan if you met him? How many blue shirts do you have? (I think such a question would put him at ease). What is your most memorable experience of Alan or his work? He has THE most expressive top lip in the business. Magnificent lip curl. Both sides at once if the moment requires it. Interviewee: Poule Roulante, from a wonderful world of her own. Which Alan do you like? I like all three, not that I know their work really well. Why do you like these Alans? I like Davies because he is so laid-back and non-aggressive, and also funny. I like Cumming cos he is fascinating, even tho I only just discovered him. I like Rickman because he is class. What would you say to Alan if you met him? I'm useless at meeting celebs. What is your most memorable experience of Alan or his work? Davies does stand-up which is funny, not many stand-ups make me laugh. I also loved Jonathan Creek til it got done by Alistair McGowan, now I can't take it seriously!! Interviewee: Mysterywoman from Essex Which Alan do you like? Rickman, you fool! (like Davies as well, but for all the opposite reasons). Why do you like this Alan? Hmm, dificult to quantify really - I don't think 'like' is quite the right word, it's too light and fluffy. I think it has to be the voice. If you met Alan, what would you say to him? Well, Hello... What is your most memorable experience of Alan or his work? Definitely his brilliantly toe-curling performance as Obediah Slope in the Barchester Chronicles. The epitome of obsequiousness, and typecast before his time! I used to look forward to Mondays with a passion, as I was allowed to stay up late and watch it (on a school night!) I was only about 13, so I didn't understand why someone so odious and uncomfortable to watch should be so compelling (actually I still don't - could someone explain please?) Interviewee: Emma from Ipswich (if you have an explanation for Emma, please send it to me and I will forward it on) |
