NBC wants you to create a 60-90 second advertisement for television. You choose, based on your intended audience, the best time-slot to air this ad. NBC is particularly excited about Ado because Bill Shakespeare's language and stories have traditionally been translated into lots of financial success! Focus on the language of the play when creating this ad: it must include 6 lines of dialogue from the play. |

Go out and find actors, locations, visuals, dialogue, and anything else that will help the American public want to watch Ado. |

There are three ways to go about completing this: 1. Take advantage of our school's Audio Visual Department. You may need to spend some out-of-class time working with their staff. They will help you with the editing process, and will allow you to use their resources, including a video-camera. Keep this in mind when scheduling! -OR- 2. Create a detailed script, gather necessary props, music and costumes and act out this advertisement in class. Every second of the 60-90 second spot must be accounted for. -OR- 3. You may free-lance it, using your own videocamera and resources. This could be as simple as actors holding up signboards with dialogue or as complex as integrating computer-generated images. |

The first step of this process is to brainstorm! Remember that how you sell a product is as important, if not more so, than the product itself. You will create your own checklist, and follow it through. This will be included in your group portfolio to demonstrate your organizational skills and your initiative. The point of this exercise is not to produce a sophisticated MTV-worthy piece, but rather a snapshot that evokes the meaning, feeling and action of the play. Creativity and resourcefulness will be rewarded, as will demonstration of a true and deep understanding of the play. |

To learn what successful advertising looks like, click here. Don't be afraid to use the time you spend watching television - pay special attention to promos for shows or movies. How do they draw you in? How can you use these techniques to draw your audience in? Did Shakespeare use any of these techniques while writing the play? Take notes for your portfolio. |
