Taupo and Napier
Christopher really wanted to play golf so we found a short par 3 course in Rotorua. He LOVED it. We played the whole course then went back to the first hole to take some photos.
We went on a VERY fun thrill jet-boat ride up to Huka Falls (near Taupo). Lots of spins and near misses with poles, trees, and other random items in the river.
Not just a Loo, a SUPER LOO! This was the only pay toilet that we encountered while we were away.
New Zealand is well-know for its honey (didn't you know?) and this was the only place (that we know of) where we misplaced an item. Christopher left his favorite yellow car in this store. We told him not to bring it in... he should have listened.
Craters of the Moon. This is a boardwalk trail through a steamy, crater-filled area north of Taupo.
Christopher played in the water every chance he got. Here he is frolicking in the ocean in Napier.
Mom wanted to visit a sheep tannery. Christopher cried and fussed during the entire tour.
We visited Pernel's Fruit World, a fruit orchard that caters to tourists by giving a tour and samples of many of their fruits. We discovered a yummy green plum (can't remember it's name right now).
Our reservation date for the inter-island ferry is fast-approaching so we began our big push towards Wellington. We had heard that there had been some flooding in the southern region of the island, but it didn't become a problem until we were unable to find a hotel in Palmerston-North. We headed out for smaller towns with our fingers crossed and encountered water in the road. We made it through... the car was a rental you know...
A winery near Napier. Once again, the wine was not great. We keep trying though...
The water was only about 1.5 feet deep on the roadway. We ended up at a B & B in the next town. There was no breakfast served. Ask Clark what the 2nd B was for...
This car museum was one of Christopher's favorite stops of the entire trip. We spent about an hour moving from one car to the next. "1954 Ford" etc.
The Maori have some long names. This was NOT the longest!
