Wellington
As we approached Wellington it was very windy and the sea was extremely rough. We were amazed to find a few crazy people surfing, even near rocks. We got out of the car and it was so windy the adults had a very difficult time staying vertical.  At one point, Christopher was running in the direction of the wind and a gust knocked him head over tail in a somersault. Thankfully he got up laughing! With the weather outside so violent, we spent some time at an indoor playground. Christopher had a fabulous time.
We walked to the top of a big hill to visit the planetarium and observatory. We watched two shows then rode on the cable-car back down to the business district.
New Zealand's world-class sports teams are called the Silver Leafs.  The name is taken from the silver leaf fern. It is a bright silvery white on the back, not green!
That evening we went to a show in the park. It was a fire-dancing rock opera about a Maori man learning some life lessons. It was an excellent display and Christopher behaved the entire time. I think he was hypnotised by all of the swirling fire.
