After a few pairs of Astro-turf style football trainers (the Pumas and the Umbros), I decided to buy a pair of Adidas 'Avenger' trainers. These had a much flatter rubber sole, for soccer training indoors and 5-a-side etc. They were very popular in the mid-to-late 1980s, so I was a bit late getting in on the trend, but again were great to get muddy and were worn by lots of lads who used to hang around in them in tracksuits and sports kit.
The soles were very different for mudding than astro-turf trainers that used to hold the mud, but if the mud was very wet and sticky it still stuck well, and as long as you walked carefully (on the tips of your toes?), you could then leave trails of muddy footprints on the carpet as you walked. All very naughty, but good fun :0))) |
