What are the Values and Attitudes for Global Citizenship?

Oxfam (1997) has defined six values and attitudes for Global Citizenship, these are:

1. Sense of identity and self-esteem - pertains to being open-minded about global issues.
2. Empathy and sense of common humanity - pertains to being concerned for humanity and common needs of people.
3. Commitment to social justice and equity - pertains to being responsible for social justice and fair-mindedness.
4. Valuing and respecting diversity - pertains to giving importance to all people as equal and different.
5. Concern for environment and commitment to sustainable development - pertains to the concern for the future of the planet and future generations; as well as commitment to a lifestyle for a nurtured and maintainable world.
6. Belief that people can make a difference - pertains to the willingness to work towards a more fair future for everyone.
