When praised by someone

Sahih al-Bukhari, 'Al-Adab al-Mufrad No. 761

We are from Allah and unto Him we return. O Allah! Do not call me to account for what they say and forgive me for what they have no knowledge [and make me better than they imagine].

When a tragedy strikes

Muslim 2/632

Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raaj'ioon. Allahumma-jurni fi museebati wa akhlif li khairan minha
We are from Allah and unto Him we return. O Allah! Take me out of my plight and bring to me after it something better.

When you see someone afflicted by misfortune
at-Tirmidhi 5/493,4

Alhamdulilahil-ladhi 'afaani mimmab-talaaka bihi wa fadhdhalani 'ala katheerin mimman khalaqa tafdheela
Praise be to Allah who has spared me what He has afflicted you with, and preferred me greatly above much of what He has created

While sitting in an assembly

Sahih ibn Majah 2/321
Ibn Umar (ra) said that the Prophet (saws) used to repeat 100 times in a single sitting before getting up

Rabbighfirli wa tub 'alayya innaka antat-Tawwaabul-Ghafoor
My Lord! Forgive me and accept my repentance. You are the Ever-Relenting, the All-Forgiving.

Supplication for the expiation of sins said at the conclusion of a sitting, gathering, etcetera
[abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi #3/153, ibn Majah, an-Nasa'i]

Glory be to You, O Allah! And I Praise You. I bear witness that None has the right to be worshipped except You. I seek Your Forgiveness and turn to You in repentance.

A'isha (ra) narrated that whenever the Prophet (saw) would betake a seat, read Qur'an or pray, he would always conclude it with certain words. That the Prophet (saw) said that whoever speaks good, it (the supplication below) will be a seal for that goodness and whoever speaks ill, it will be an atonement for him.
[an-Nasa'i #273, Ahmad #6/77]

Glory be to You, and I Praise You. None has the right to be worshipped except You. I seek Your Forgiveness and turn to You in repentance.

at-Tirmidhi 5/570

Allahum-makfinni bi halaalika 'an haraamika, wa aghninee bifadhlika 'amman siwaaka.
O Allah! Suffice me with what You have allowed instead of what You have forbidden, and make me independent of all others besides You.

Sahih al-Bukhari, 7/158

Allahumma inni 'a'udhubika minal hammi walhuzni, Wal'ajzi walkasali, walbukhli waljubni, Wa dal'id-daiyni wa ghalabatir-rajal
O Allah! I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and from being over powered by men

If you are afraid to go to sleep or feel lonely and depressed
abu Dawud 4:12

A'udhu bi kalimaatil-laahit-taam-maati min ghadhabihi wa 'iqaabihi, wa sharri 'ibaadihi, wa min hama-zaatish-shaiateeni wa an yah-dhuroon

I seek protection in the perfect words of Allah, from His displeasure and punishment and from evil people, and from the (evil) prompting of devils and from their presence.

Against an evil portent

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika an ushrika bika, wa ana a'lamu, wa astaghfiruka lima laa a'lamu.
O Allah! I seek refuge in You lest I associate anything with You knowingly, and I seek refuge in Your Forgiveness for what I know not.
