Brazil jets: How to flight from US.
Brazil is served by the majority of International
airlines. Brazil is the 4th best served country in the
world by flights originated in the US.
From US, the main Brazilian companies are TAM and Varig,
which also account for the majority of the domestic
flights. United, American Airlines, Delta, Continental,
Japan Air Lines also have regular flights to Brazil
departing from US Airports
Brazil language
It's Portuguese, not Spanish!
Although Brazil is surrounded by Spanish-speaking
countries, the language here is Portuguese. Your Spanish
will help a lot, though. Most Cariocas understand it, if
spoken slowly. Anyone dealing directly with tourists will
understand, and try hard to speak English. French and
Italian are the other two languages that are likely to be
at least understood.
We realize Portuguese is not a first choice as a second
language, and nobody expects you to become a pro.
Learning to read the words may be a useful skill, though.
It will surely come handy when you have to say the name
of a street, or some place you are going to.
What kind of money do I need?
Change some dollars into Real (the Brazilian currency.
US$1=approx. R$ 2.20 - Pronounced hey-ow. The plural of
Real is Reais (hey-ice!)) upon arrival or in an official
money exchange office. Prices are sometimes quoted in
dollars, but the actual payment is always done in the
local currency. The black market for dollars has
virtually disappeared. Bring traveler checks and your
credit card/bank card with its PIN code stored in your
memory only. ATM's are ubiquitous (almost everywhere!).
