All children love music, love to dance and love to make noise.  Why not help them have fun while improving their coordination, music recognition and self esteem.  Plus it gives them a chance to make their own instruments, using their imagination.

You can be make drums out of tin cans, pots, or pans.  You can use sticks directly on them to make the noise or put a rubber ballon over the top and fasten very tightly with an elastic or tape.

You can use bells or tin cans as maraca's.  Simple take an empty can (ones with plastic lids are excellent) and place beans, beads, or anything small inside to make the noise.  Seal the can tightly and decorate the outside with markers, paint, beads, stickers.  Remember with younger children to make sure that the lid is sealed very well so there is nothing for them to choke on.

You can use paper towel tubs, rolled paper and decorate them to make a trumpet or horn.  You can also use whistles or party noise makers.

Just look around your home, there are many wonderful things that would make great instruments with very little work.  Then you just stand back and see the joy and happiness on your children's faces.  The most important part is that the children use their imagination and have FUN!!!!
