My hobbies & interests |
Now I suppose you'll want to know about my hobbies and stuff too huh. Well all right all right, if it'll make you happy ;) |
I have a few hobbies actually. Among them (and I am sure I'll forget some) are knitting, papirklip (Danish paper cutting), making Christmas stars and Christmas hearts, making "julenisser" (another Danish tradition) and scraperfoil art. I've got loads of things I want to learn or at least try my hand at at some point, but there's this little thing called time or rather lack there of. You know the drill I'm sure. I'll be sure to clue you all in on whether I manage to learn anything else. |
I've been knitting ever since I was a little girl; don't ask me how long exactly for I wouldn't be able to tell you if my life depended on it. Just know I basically forced my mother to learn it in order for her to teach me. I still knit. In fact, I'm starting up a knitting ministry at my church. You can see pictures of my ventures here. |
Paper cutting is actually very easy, fun and looks good too, well.... it can look good. I usually use thick colored paper for the actual end product, on top of which I attach a copy with what I want to cut out. |
Scraperfoil art is somewhat more challenging, for me at least. I don't have 20/20 vision and some of the lines can be very hard to see at times. Basically scraperfoil means that you have a piece of thin cardboard which is blackened by a sort of scoolboard paint, on top of which there is a print in light gray or brown. It is the print you have to carefully scrape of using a special sort of knife, which reveals either a silver or copper colored print. Quite nice if you ask me. But check it out for yourself. |
While I lived in Denmark I also picked up the tradition of making hearts for the Christmas tree. Simple, but quite nice and kids tend to love them as it usually means candy or other forms of treats hidden inside the hearts. And admit it, we're all kids at heart still aren't we. |
Another Danish tradition for Christmas is to make Christmas stars. This appears to have become quite addicting to do, as I seem to be doing it all the time at work when I am not on the phone or waiting for my computer to do what it is supposed to. I usually make them quite small, though I will admit there are people around that can make them even tinier then mine. I'm just sticking to the ones I've done so far however, quite difficult enough at times. But I tend to make them in different sizes anyway. |
