Eric's work History | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Hello, this is Eric. Yeah, the one responsible for all this web-site stuff and of which my darling wife Kelly is so lovingly understanding for the effort it's taken. I am the Assembly Department Supervisor at L&F Industries in Huntington Park, Ca. I came aboard L&F August, 1993, bringing with me 17 years of "Hydraulic Systems" experience including field service, power-unit, systems manufacturing/installation, and management. I got started in the Hydraulic field in the US Navy by chance. I was signed up to attend Jet Engine classes in Tennessee but at the last minute they said that the billet was completely full. They then offered me either Boiler Technician or Aircraft Hydraulic Systems school as alternatives. I thought, "who wants to work at the bottem of a ship in 120deg heat all day on boilers". So the obvious choice was the latter. I enrolled in the Naval Aircraft Hydraulic Systems school and graduated fourth out of eleven remaining students of the original 45! |

After school I received order's to report to Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia Beach Va., and meet up with Attack Squadron 42 (VA-42 Green Pawn's)) for the Grumman A6 Intruder aircraft. This was a "new pilot" training outfit stationed on land with periodic detachments for 2 to 4 weeks aboard ship. I spent the next 3-1/2 years working as an A6 Plane captain and flight systems hydraulic technician.

After being discharged I went to work for RW Atkinson Company, an Industrial Hydraulic company in Southern California for the next 15 years. This is where I was initiated into the Industrial Hydraulics field. My role there was systems fabricator, field service, installations and project supervision.

I had the pleasure of working under Mr. Peter Gale, our then chief systems engineer for ten years. I assisted him in the management of the companies power-unit production shop and acted as the interface contact for his department. Peter is known throughout the then and current Hydraulic family as one of our top systems design engineers in the country! I learned volumes of information over and above my previous military schooling through Mr. Gale and to this day he is always gracious to lend a helping hand or thought on anybody's hydraulic need without question. A real gentleman!
One day I was asked to assist L&F Industries in the plumbing and start-up of one of their 150-ton strech presses to help them meet delivery. They apparently liked my attitude and expertise enough that they offered me a position in the supervision of their assembly shop.That was in 1993. Since my beginning at L&F Industries, I was involved in a wide variety of machinery projects as my department is responsible for the final building, testing and acceptance and finally the installation of the machine at the customers job-site. This included complete Turnkey Operations. Some of these Large/Heavy machinery include, Metal forming machinery, Large Hydraulic Presses (up to 5000 ton!). We also specialize in equipment such as Telescopes (see my-link), Domes, Shielding Doors & Handling equipment for nuclear processing, Closures for underground nuclear testing, Rocket Sleds, Jet Engine thrust test stands and Large Vacuum tank systems. The 6.5 Meter telescope project is a massive project that is among the largest in the world today. So it's been a very challenging and exciting place to work. |

I would also like to say that L&F's President Mr. David Chivens is an engineer and person of the highest reputation that I have been fortunate to work for also. He never ceased to amaze me with his ideas and excellence in his designs that are on the cutting edge of todays industry. Besides being a great mind, Mr Chivens is a person I was happy to be associated with.
I've been proud to be a part of a team of professionals that continue to strive for excellence at L&F Industries. With over 60 years of experience in the Heavy Aerospace Industry under the names "Hufford" and "Sheridan Gray", L&F's machines continue to set the standard for performance and reliability in the world today.
As of January 2001, I have become a team member at HYDRAULIC CONTROLS INC. I am currently the Systems Division Manager. This is an exciting and growing company of which I have many previous coleagues in my hydraulic career. Stop by our website link below or give us a call, we will be glad to be of service to you and your system needs.
