Lesson: Unity- collaborative journals. NCSCS Goal: 3 Organization of componets into a whole utilizing design principles and elements. Principle of Design: Unity Context: Art work as unity of technique and content; collaboration between artists to create one work.. Content: Themes choosen by students. Each book must retain it's theme, even though the perspective of the artists change. Resources: internet, example cd, Alterations and Collaborative Books, examples. Studio Prompt: How can you work collaboratively within a group to create a series of themed journals that provide perspectives that are diverse yet unified? Materials: discarded books, exacto knives, collage materials, YES glue, modgepodge, brayers, paint, drawing materials, found objects. Process: 1. Selection of theme and book. 2. Book is divided into three sections. 3. theme artist completes their choice of section. 4. Transfer to next artist. 5. repeat. 6. Return to theme artist for completion of cover. Assessment: Based on the following areas- Research and development. Composition: application of knowledge of design principle of unity Craftmanship and technique Creativity and aesthetics. Group work and ethics. |

Course description: Art two continues the exploration of art through critical, aesthetic and historical viewpoints. Technical focus is on the development of abilities and skills. Course content is based upon a combination of the design principles with integrated themes processed through creative application of technical skills. Art Two follows the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Art Two. |
